What style Gatorz do you recommend?

Recommended Posts

Well, I wouldn't get any of those. $90 for a pair of sunglasses to jump in? Hell no!!
I would get some at Wal-mart that look like the "stealth" ones. If you are going to attach them GOOD, then perhaps. But I wouldn't wear $90 sunglasses in freefall without making sure they'll be on good enough.
Are the "croakies" going to hold them on good enough? It seems that the part that goes over your ear is HUGE. That usually makes it hard to get the croakies on there good.
Good luck to you though!

Well, I already jump Bolle glasses without croakies, and havent lost them in about 150 jumps, they are just getting beat up being plastic and all, I just want to get metal framed sunglasses so they will last longer. $90? C'mon, that's less than 5 jumps.............

What is wrong with you guys!
I jump in Gatorz and am sponsored by them. But my opinion is the same.
They are awesome. Aviators are cool. Seaths keep the wind out. Gimme a couple of days and I can tell you which ones they send out to me and we go from there. Jim Slayton, Raymond Adams, Goat, Thomas McDowel... and numerous others jump with them and I do not wear a strap on them either. They fit perfect and dont fog. Also, are super fine under your helmet. You would have to ask Thomas or Jim how they jump without helmet with them.

I would also like to mention that the company in and of itself is such a joy to deal with.
I believe I paid like $160 for the pair I had bought last year and I feel like they are worth every penny.
I do every jump with mine. I prefer them over any goggles I have ever had. Visbility is also excellent. Even out the corner of your eye. This was impossible with any googles I have had. I have 2 pair of Rx goggles one in smoke and one in amber for sunset loads. They are ok, but they still didnt help my landings.
Being able to see out the corner of your eye in freeflying is important as well as comfort.
They have a new catalog out for 2002 and many options. I will be getting a yellow lens pair for sunset loads and that is super awesome. Mr. Lynch of Gatorz has been so very nice. I cant imagine dealing with any other company. They now have shoes for skating and other things too. The Tshirts are going to be really cool. But I am thinking with the 'leather jumpsuit' I am going to need some high tops. I will have to find out if they make those. The style is similar to Vans, I think - I could be wrong. I dont remember back to my skating days if they even made high tops. (I have that ankle issue)
But the Gatorz tennis shoes would be great for swooping, just slide along........
I dont swoop, but I might later today..... I am jumping an Alpha 150....... Whoo Hooooo, maybe havent decided yet.....

I am jumping an Alpha 150

Ummmm....Ann??? Hunny??? Ummmm......Are you sure you are ready for that canopy I remember you saying in a thread not to long ago that you don't want to bother with your canopy skills. That Alpha isn't your sabre, are you sure you are ready for it. Don't forget I did see the pics of your landing a few weeks ago.

Wow, guys.
I guess I have to find out how to put my glasses on so they dont get lost. There was a guy at our DZ who lost a pair of Oakleys on a jump. If I lost something like that on a jump, I would be royally pissed.
I have a pair of $3 sunglasses that are like those ATTACHED.
They work great for me! :)JumpinDuo.com...come and sign the guestbook.

My practicality .02 on a leather jumpsuit.....I'm sure the visual will be way cool.....just makesure you have full range of motion in your arms before you jump. I had the bright/dumb idea of jumping with my "Vanson Leathers" motorcyle jacket last winter. (It's the low profile, snug fit type jacket that AMA Super Bike riders wear), I put the jacket on uner my rig, and it fit great, I was aerodynamic and warm, but when I tried to lift my arms up (as in to reach the risers, the stitching on the jacket wouldn't let my arms go above my head. Had I jumped it, I wouldn't have been able to reach my toggles. Justa thought. Have fun and post pics!!!

Just a little word to the wise here. I have a friend who nearly always jumps with a full face helmet and Oakleys. Three Saturdays ago, she had a serious landing accident (inexplicible low turn) and impacted several times before coming to a stop. At least one (but I think more) of the impacts was face first. Miraculously, although this was a horrendous landing that left her unconscious for 5+ minutes and in the hospital for six days, her main injuries are facial ones (besides cracked ribs). She broke her nose and other facial bones, loosened some teeth, and had lacerations and bruises around her eyes, as well as a deep impression of her Oakleys embedded in her forehead. The imprint of the Oakleys is also deeply embedded in the face shield, which popped out under the pressure. Although she had a Croakie, during the incident the sunglasses travelled from her eyes to her forehead, then to her chin and neck, leaving their marks along the way. The Oakleys, however, were not broken. God only knows what would've happened to her if they had broken. (I would expect Gatorz to perform this way, too, btw.)
So, while some sunglasses provide great comfort, durability, range of vision, etc., it's worth remembering that they may inflict some damage to your face if you impact anything.
And cheap sunglasses may be more likely to break and cause more serious damage.
Just my 2 cents.

Thx for that Julie,
but I think we can double guess this situations in many ways.... (note: I dont know any other details from that incident then what you posted).
However, maybe the glasses breaking would have resulted in less injuries. By having them staying in one piece, the glasses had no other place to go then to stay on her face, and make multiple imprints.
If they would have broken, they could have just as easily make more OR less damage: more if sharp pieces cut her face / eyes; less if ould have flown / broken away.
PS: Oakleys break too... I've gone through 2 pairs due to regular (but not 100% carefull) wear and tear.

It would be very difficult to break a pair of Gatorz. They are made of aircraft material.
I am very hard on my stuff. And mine are still awesome.
Regarding my friend who jumps with Gatorz and contacs. I think he has Aviators which are more low profile than Stealth. Mine fit my head perfectly and have rubber on the inside by my ears so they do not wiggle around with my helmet.
I get no air in my eyes. (or at least very little) I know Thomas McDowell jumps in Gatorz and his are low profile and he appears to have no trouble. Same with Raymond Adams, Jim Slayton, and other pros.
Gatorz or other sunglasses are not meant to replace goggles. I just happen to like them.
PS-
The jumpsuit maker is adjusting the measurements so that I will have as much flex as possible. I am not sure how we will address the freefly situation as this is experimental. I do know that I will be going pretty darn fast.
I am thinking I will look kinda like a sexy swat team member. My helmet, rig and suit will be black.
