When should Skye do her AFF???

Recommended Posts

Okay peeps, voice your opinions.

Our very own Skye is bustin her ass working manifest and video every weekend to save for AFF.

Her plan is to save up for level 1-3 and do those. Then do the rest whenever she has enough money.

I'm wondering if it would make more sense to save up for all of it, get the discount for paying up front, and knock all 8 levels over the course of a few weekends in a row.

She could also do her L1 now, and bang out each level when she has enuf money.

I think at the rate she's going, she'll have made enuf money by Aug or so regardless of when she starts.

It's her choice of when or if she wants to, I just thought it might help her if she heard others opinions

I think her bf should rob a gas station to pay for her AFF.

Otherwise, i'd wait til i could do it all at once. Sorry skye, i know that keeps you on the ground for another couple months, but it's just my opinion.

I'd have to rob a couple to pay for it.

Seriously, I put some money on the books it on her b-day, and throw a JT on every now n then to help.

The thing I'll need to remember is to take a step back when she does start.

I think that working at a DZ she should be making enough friends with jumpmasters that a couple might take pitty on her (along with the DZO) where by they might just let her sit in on an FJC, and do the jumps for slots and gear rental......

You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Dude start it right now! Stop whatever you're doing, go to the dropzone, throw down Gary's credit card and pay for it all at once and knock them all out by Saturday, get your solos in....then I can jump with you on Sunday.

:)

I'm a big help huh?

Yeah me too. Skye have you been talking to anyone at the DZ about it? Like Connie?

Get levels 1-3 done. Doing more than one jump a day while on student status can be overload. I took my ground school on April 1, and didn't get my A license until September, and I was out there every weekend. Go ahead and get started. I'll take a day off the camera wheel to teach that ground school. :)

How about let her start it when she feels like it.:)Pressure never makes it easier....[:/]
Doing 2 to 3 student jumps a day will be better and produce a better learning curve than a big spacing between jumps, BUT, never go to far and get overloaded mentally and physically while doing them.
A good Instructor will know when she has had enough, and he'll see when it's becoming unproductive to make more jumps.

Be safe.;)

true that, it may be overwhelming. How long did it take you to get thru AFF tho?

One of my concerns is that she'll get 1, 2 and maybe 3 done, then it'll be 3 or 4 weeks til 4 and then 5 and so on...

I guess I'm trying to say that it can be equally overwhelming to wait a long time in between levels. try to overcome the fears and remembering what you did right and wrong from a month prior. (Not to mention currency issues)

Again, very true. I hope the intention of this thread isn't misunderstood. IT's purpose was to give her other opinions so she could make a more informed choice about how she would want to approach it.

All I'm saying is that even if she buys the course up front, it can take months to get through the 8 levels due to wind, etc.. After that she can knock out one a week or so until she's done. Because of high winds and bad weather I took about 13 weeks to get through the 8 levels, and did 3 levels on one weekend where the weather was good.

I know she's ready to get started because she told me so herself.

Jump today, for tomorrow it may be windy.

Hey Gary,

It took me over 2 months to finish AFF. The reason was because I started it in late October and we were constantly rained out. I still went to the dropzone every weekend rain or shine though. I think if she starts it now and does them when she can it would be fine. She's still going to be around everyone and it's not like she'll forget what to do. She has everyone there to answer questions for her and she's basically submerged in it.

What does Skye want to do?

Not yet really. I'm kinda shy about asking to give me a discount and stuff. The coaches and stuff can't wait until I get in the air to help me, but as for asking about any deal... No I haven't. [:/]

Skye wants to jump, but I do want to get level 1 - 4 paid off. Then it's just $150 per jump after that and with as much as I work out at the dz, I can do that easily.

Side note: Everytime I realize I'm getting closer and closer to actually doing this, my tummy gets more and more butterflies. :S

Wait long enough so I can be your instructor!

Save enough to do at least a couple levels every weekend. If you can jump more than 2 times a weekend that's even better.

Stuff you already know:
Level one will be an all day event
- The training will kick your ass. You will be sore
Level 2 and 3 are good to do an the same day.
- Expect exsessive training and rolling around on the carpet prior to 3.
4 and 5 are very similar dives so performing them the same day is very helpful.

6 B| much fun.. your first intentional flippy dos
7 Try and do it on the same day as 6 but if not, it goes well with level 8.

That's my suggestion and depending on other circustances, it's subject to change.

Good luck!

It will still be at least 3 weeks to a month out i'm thinking.

Thanks for the info Tim. Reading makes me more excited. One of the girls at manifest gave her SIM book to read and review.

This is going to be SOOO great!!

that's not what I mean :) I can't wait to get to jump with you and don't worry, you'll be getting your beer kiss pass from me.

What I mean is that I need to let your AFFI's teach you and not go off tellin ya what you should be doing all the time. not to say that I won't explain something to ya if you ask, I just shouldn't volunteer.
It's your training afterall
