sum1mom 0 #1 April 21, 2004 After much begging, and pleading, I finally got to see my daughter plummet towards earth yesterday on her very first tandem. I rode the plane to altitude and saw the exit – PRICELESS!!!!I must admit, I feel like the best mom in the world right now and want to “brag” to everyone!!!! What’s even better, now I have something in common with my teenager. Way tooooo kewl. I gave this to her as a graduation gift to set the tone for the next step in her life. OMG, what have I done? lifewithoutanet 0 #2 April 21, 2004 You're a sick, twisted enabler. That's what you are. Good on you! -C. PS Now you just have to pony up the dough for AFF and a rig, like any good mom. And if you do, tell me how to talk my mom into buying me anything related to skydiving.
sum1mom 0 #3 April 21, 2004 No way!! She's gotta buy the rest of her jumps herself. I've paid for both her tandems. Hell, I'm still in the STP program and only have 8 jumps, so no-way she's getting into anymore of my jump money!!! I am a little twisted. Her grandparents hate that I do it, so, we're just going to mail the photos of her jump with her graduation announcements (instead of the regular pictures) - we're to scared to call them They are all going to freak. SlyFox 0 #4 April 21, 2004 I'm with you on paying for the first jump, after that they're on their own. I got my brother hooked that way and in 6 months my daughter will get a taste of it too. I can't wait to share my addiction. *****Why would anyone jump from a perfectly good airplane? Because it isn't much fun if it's broke.****
PrairieDoug 0 #5 April 21, 2004 Can't think of a better bonding experience. My oldest daughter Sindri did a tandem and #2 daughter Laura completed AFF without any repeats. I enjoy sharing this with them so much that I don't mind the jump $, or even buying Laura a rig if she continues. My friends ask me if I worry about them getting hurt. My response is "no, just worried about them getting hit on by all the freaks, outlaws, and nut cases that hang out at the DZ."

sum1mom 0 #8 April 22, 2004 yeh!!! definately post when your chunk your baby out of the plane. It'll really be cool if you can fly beside her on her first while its being video'd. Way 2 go....get 'em sick while they're young!!
sum1mom 0 #9 April 22, 2004 sickies at the DZ???? What do you mean?? She'll be fine - I hope... JK everyone at "our" DZ (that sounds weird) has been absolutely wonderful to both of us in our adventure(s). It is an incredible bonding experience. She is so pleased with herself. She'll be a much better flyer than myself...I'm already jealous. Oh, well...it'll motivate her to get a job. In a separate posting, it was recommended that she get a job at the DZ packing rigs - as a matter of fact we are looking into that!! I just wanna be sure she stays away from my gear if she's packing and we're fighting for some reason or another!! Girlz.
nael 0 #10 April 22, 2004 That's awesome! I wish my mum was like you! She refuses to have anything to do with my skydiving, which unfortunately includes buying me anything skydiving related (which sucks because i ONLY want things that are skydiving related now!). One of my close friends is doing her first tandem next monday, I think I'm more excited than she is! Shes been having a hard time lately with life in general, so I'm really glad shes decided to do the tandem now, because hopefully it'll put a whole new perspective on things for her. She assures me she is only doing one tandem and thats it, my response was "uh huh.......we'll see!". It'd be great if she became as obsessed as I am, but I'll be happy just to see the huge grin on her face when she lands.www.TerminalSports.com.auAustralia's largest skydive gear store

sum1mom 0 #12 April 22, 2004 Actually Zee, that is a good question. The answer is no and yes!! When I first entered the sport and going through the program - she had no desire whatsoever. Then, she started going to the DZ and relaxing with the folks and got used to the environment. Watched all the tandems come in (seeing their reactions over and over), and of course has to hear about my progress (or lack thereof) after each of my student jumps. The constant exposure just took some of the “shock factor” away, and gave her some assurance that skydivers are not doing this on a death wish. Now, she’s thrilled all the more. She can’t wait to go up again. But, in short, if she didn’t WANT to go, she would have never gone. She is one of the most stubborn people I’ve ever known. Oh, and BTW…..when I first started talking about skydiving as a “sport” – she scoffed and stated that it wasn’t. She has since changed her opinion. Billy 0 #13 April 22, 2004 That is very cool! My daughter and her BF are getting post HS grad jumps 2 days after graduation while family is still in town...I shoot tandems here and they both want me to shoot there's... and we'll fill our C-207 with as many other camera flyers as we can also.. We had scheduled it last Fall,, but her BF creamed an ankle the night before jump day playing football.. She is really excited, has seen so many of my tandem videos she knows the drill, is going to help at the DZ this year editing tandems, and already wants my rig when I get a new one,, it would be sweet if she decides to take the ISP but thats all her decision... NOT that I'm a proud Daddy, but here she is Prom dress shopping.. PS.. Good luck with your skyventures! Natural Born FlyerZ.com

swoosh 0 #18 April 29, 2004 I truly understand your excitement!! I have seen two of my daughters jump, youngest, 19, static lined, and second, 21, tandemed. Wanna know the rest of the story?? I was on the load before my youngest, mal'd and had to chop while she waited for the plane to take her on her first jump. As I landed the white, she was loading.
