Bushmaster6 0 #1 June 17, 2010 Can this unit be serviced by anyone other than the mfg, who wants over a grand? Its about 15 years old. What if the Hokie Pokie really WAS what IT was all about?...
Anvilbrother 0 #2 June 17, 2010 I see them brand new on EBAY for about $250. I dont know if they have a service schedule like the FXC does, the ones on ebay might be timed out too Postes r made from an iPad or iPhone. Bushmaster6 0 #3 June 17, 2010 I saw that today as well, I sent a msg to the owner, and havent seen a reply yet. Im gonna guess they are timed out too. I have an FXC 12000 that the manufacturer said they would rebuild for 350. Seems like alot of difference between the manufacturers in pricing. Im sure Im going to go with the FXC, there are both unused, but expired. Was just curious. ThanksWhat if the Hokie Pokie really WAS what IT was all about?... Bushmaster6 0 #4 June 17, 2010 I also have an LJ engineering 451-500. All three of these came with my MC-4. But they were all at least 9 years old. still waiting to hear from LJ on the cost, it is the newest of the three 08-01What if the Hokie Pokie really WAS what IT was all about?... Anvilbrother 0 #6 June 17, 2010 I can't speak for anything other than the FXC which I have delt alot with. All FXC units when sent to the factory are upgrated to revision "J", which most of the ones you find in the classifieds are that revision. If you already have a revision J it only needs to be sent back to the factory every 2 years for a checkout. They do a list of tests and checks, and change things like plastic parts and bumpers. If nothing is wrong, which there usually isn't the charge for the 2 year service is around $160 with return shipping included. If your send in one that is not a revision J they require a update and do a good amount of upgrading parts and such is where all the cost comes in. I have owned 3 MC-4 2 of them had FXC12000, and my current one has a vigil 2. You can find used FXC on here for less than 100$ and with instalation on your rig you can have one in operation for around 400$, then you have to send it back every 2 years for $160 which takes a while, and you are probbaly without a rig unless you buy a spare unit to rotate out while yours is getting checked out=more$ It has a few things to keep in mind, you must open IIRC 1500ft ABOVE where you set the AAD to open(it says on the control housing). I had mine set on 1500 and deployed at 3500. Remember to verify the activation alt before every jump as it moves throughout the day usually as the weather changes. It has never given me any trouble, and the unit was used for YEARS in all kinds of rigs. As I said for the cost of getting a unit, having it updated, and the cost of getting it checked out every 2 years I chose to go and spend the $1400 upfront and have newer technology with less sercvice interuption and not have to worry so much about a 2 out situation if for whatever reason I find myself opening at 2500 instead of my usual 3500. sorry for the spelling im in a rush to get started with work.... will check back later Postes r made from an iPad or iPhone. wolfriverjoe 1,523 #7 June 17, 2010 Don't forget than an FXC also requires a function check in an altitude chamber every repack. It's not that big of a deal, 3 tests - minimum firing speed, maximum no-fire speed and a full freefall speed accuracy check. But it needs to be done in an altitude chamber. If you don't have one, you need to get it to someone who does (and usually pay them to do it)."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I had mine set on 1500 and deployed at 3500. The warning label actually says the main canopy must be open 1500 feet above the preset altitude. If you are throwing out your pilot chute 2000 feet above the preset altitude, the main needs to be open within 500 feet. If by "deployed" you meant "open" then you were okay. If you meant "started deploying" then you are a lucky guy. Mark
Bushmaster6 0 #9 June 17, 2010 The young lady at FXC sent a price list, and I chose the highest price as my reference, as I am not a subject matter expert on AADs, but hopefully through my progression, I might be close someday. I bought my mc4, and it came with three AADs so I am doing some research to figure out whether or not it would benefit me to have them brought to airworthiness, or buy a new one altogether. They are in new looking condition, so I would hate for them to be wasted if they can be updated and used safely. What if the Hokie Pokie really WAS what IT was all about?... wolfriverjoe 1,523 #10 June 17, 2010 Fair enough. If you look on the data label on the FXC, on the far right, just above the date of manufacture, there is a box marked "REV:". That's the revision (It's going to be a letter). The price list tells you what the costs are to bring the different revisions up to "J" status. Just below the mfg date is the "CAL DUE:" box. That date is 2 years from the last time it was in for service. Hope that helps you."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Bushmaster6 0 #11 June 18, 2010 the revision says "J" mfg date of 08-86 cal 05-99 cal due 05-01 quite a bit out of date but I pased the info to FXC and she said send it in so I guess I will. The brochure gives cost of 150 if already in J so thats cool, but being past the two year service, Im not sure. Ill have to reaserch it some more Thanks my friend! What if the Hokie Pokie really WAS what IT was all about?...
wolfriverjoe 1,523 #12 June 18, 2010 It doesn't matter how long it's been. If it doesn't need updating to "J" revision, (and it doesn't need anything else) it'll be the $150 (plus shipping).
