Casch 0 #1 April 16, 2004 My sophomore and junior years in highschool I took Spanish. I did pretty well, but I wasn't interested in continuing the class. Now I'm trying to learn french but can't really take a class at the moment. But I'm using the skills from learning spanish to learn french! I figured out the conjugations for verbs using an online translator, so I'm gonna make a bunch of flashcards for common verbs and stuff. This is freakin' awesome. I might be able to teach myself a new language with minimal assistance

freeflir29 0 #3 April 16, 2004 I find most languages fairly easy to learn. At least the basics.....problem is I have to be in a position where I will use it in order to retain it. Now I can say hello, order beer, and insult people in several languages but I haven't retained enough to be functional.

damion75 0 #5 April 17, 2004 Like Clay (probably for the same reasons!) I have learned to say hello, goodbye, beer and some swear words in several different languages! I can get by properly in French and German and you have no idea how useful that has proved to be! BoostedXT 0 #6 April 17, 2004 I dated a girl from Lithuania for a while..I now know some Lithuanian. She was amazing....spoke English, Spanish, German, Lithuanian, Russian, Italian, and French. It was F'd up listening to her speak to her friends.....1 convo was in Italian, and the other was in Lithuanian.... She was awesome..I used to joke with her that when we fooled around she could be calling me an foolish, unknowing fat cow...and I would still think it was hot, mainly because I didnt know what she was saying. Casch 0 #8 April 19, 2004 Ok so does anyone know a decent computer based program to learn French? I was thinking about this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3672016857&category=41867&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT&rd=1 But after looking at the reviews on Amazon, I dunno... ozthebum 0 #10 April 19, 2004 I had the Japanese version of that program a couple years ago. I only used it about a week (borrowed it from someone to check it out). I learned more than I thought I would in a week, but I never use it so it's mostly gone now. Long story short (too late), I thought it would be worth buying it if I was going to use it. Casch 0 #11 April 19, 2004 From what you experienced, would you recommend it? Would you buy it if you were planning on using the language?

ozthebum 0 #13 April 19, 2004 I'd check the local library first, the library I use has tons of language tapes/CD's. They probably won't have any computer programs, but in my experance tapes/CDs will work just as well. Might save you some money....otherwise....yes I would recomend buying that program. It was good stuff, and also talked a little about customs and stuff like that, if I remember right.

Unstable 9 #16 April 20, 2004 LOL my brother speaks about 4 or 5 languages Fluently on the conversation Level. Here is how he learned them - Albanian, for example. He chooses to serve a 2 year mission for our church, the Church Drops him off In Albania, no instruction in the language what-so-ever, gives him the contact of a Missionary Friendly Family, and Bingo, 4 months later, Fluent. He made a LOT of $ translating a few years back for the Gov when all the albanian refugees came to Kansas City....=========Shaun ==========
Casch 0 #17 April 20, 2004 Wow. I would probably die of hunger and starvation, and of the elements before I even began to learn the language
