outrager 6 #17 April 15, 2004 Quoteand how bad would it SUCK to live and work there? IMHO DC area is one of the worst in the country to pick, especially if you are a jumper. The only positive thing is a lot of high-paying jobs - that's the golden chain still keeping me here in this horrible swamp. A place to live will probably depend on where you work - moving around during rush hour is a nightmare. Rents are high, it will start at about 1k/month for a cheap appt. bsbd! Yuri. freeflir29 0 #18 April 15, 2004 Quoteit will start at about 1k/month for a cheap appt. OUCH!!!!!!!!!! If they actually offer me the job I'll have about 4 million questions for them. So far I just got the letter that says I'm "qualified." One of the big questions is.......do I actually have to show up on a daily basis? That will be a BIG consideration. skydiver30960 0 #19 April 15, 2004 Hey Clay wazzup? Remember me... we made a couple "interesting" skydives at the Mardi Gras boogie. ANYHOW, my beautiful and endearing girlfriend, the illustrious Priscilla Rodriguez both grew up and lived on her own in the Northern Virginia region. Her suggestions: If you're making six figures or better, you might consider living in Alexandria. She says Fairfax, Reston, Centerville, and most other places in Fairfax County (where Old Town Alexandria is) are going to be pretty pricey. However, if you find yourself amongst the more moderately compensated, look into living in Prince William County. PWC is quite a bit less expensive, but you're going to suffer on the daily commute. From PWC to Alexandria will start at 30 mins (assuming no traffic) and go up depending on traffic jams. She used to live in the Lake Ridge part of Woodbridge (in PWC) and seemed to find it pretty nice. She says to avoid any neighborhoods that border Route 1 and most of Dale City (insert clip of Eric Cartman singing "In the Ghetto" here). Stafford and Fredricksburg are both great communities with lower costs of living, but you're looking at 1+ hour commute each way. She sez lotsa people are just sucking it up and living with the longer drive to get the lower costs of living. If commutes and traffic bother you (they bug the SHIT out of me, the only thing I don't like about city living) she suggests living in D.C. proper. That way when you drive to Alexandria in the morning and back to DC in the afternoon you'll be going the opposite direction of everyone else, virtually guaranteeing you less traffic. Dude, plus you'd live in DC, man; talk about SCHWEET nightlife and culture. So speaks the beautiful and accomplished Priscilla, and writ here by my hand; Elvisio "maybe I'll take up Realty" Rodriguez
skydiver30960 0 #20 April 15, 2004 Quick note, just for the sake of comparison, the gf was paying $870/month for an admittedly nice clean, but also admittedly small (715 sqft) one bedroom apartment in Prince William Co. She sayz if you're planning on living there for any period of time BUY something, anything. Townhomes are all the rage in the area right now, but even a condo would sell when you move on. Housing is filling up faster than they can build it so it's easy to unload just about anything. Elvisio "hello ma'am, can I show you something in a split level" Rodriguez

gmanpilot 0 #22 April 16, 2004 Dude, live in the city. There is a serious surplus of under appreciated women living there. The ratio is well in your favor. It will be expensive, but it will be worth it._________________________________________ -There's always free cheese in a mouse trap.
bkdice 0 #23 April 16, 2004 Oh crap - so *YOU* might be moving to my neck of the woods. Uh-oh. I live in Sterling. Slightly less pricey than Reston, but further from Alexandria. If you are going to work in Alexandria, live there, or try Springfield. PM me if you want any info. My parent's are realtors so I know the areas and prices pretty well from years of listening to them. My rent for a 2 bdrm/2 bath /1100 sq ft apartment was 1150 a month and it was nothing to brag about. My buddy lives in old town in a condo thats nothing fantastic and they are going for 450 thousand. Rent is outrageous.Traffic in the area is brutal to say the least. I think the place is the 7th circle of hell in several aspects. You would be able to jump at Orange though and that would totaly rock. Thats about the only good thing I can say about living in the general vicinity. It is a bit better than Clevland though as far as jumping goes. I had too good of a time in the Flats to hate Clevland completely"It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
 kmcguffee 0 #25 April 16, 2004 Are you thinking of taking a new job or just moving to a new location?
