Aerophobia- Fear of drafts ("DOOR !"), air swallowing (open mouth in freefall), or airbourne noxious substances (Farters in the plane). Aeroacrophobia- Fear of open high places. No explanation needed. Aeronausiphobia- Fear of vomiting - Caused by hyper-anxiety brought on by the realisation of what you're about to do. Agateophobia- Fear of insanity. (If your jumping out of a perfectly good aeroplane, your already nuts !) Agoraphobia- Fear of open spaces (See Aeroacrophobia), of being in crowded, public places (The plane on ride to alti). Fear of leaving a safe place (The plane on ride to alti.) Agraphobia- Fear of sexual abuse. - In other words, Tandem Masters Agrizoophobia- Fear of wild animals. - In other words AFF instructors. Allodoxaphobia- Fear of opinions. Any DZ is full of 'em. Ambulophobia- Fear of walking. Something to overcome if you land off. Ancraophobia- Fear of wind. Didn't we already cover this with the farters ? Androphobia/Arrhenphobia - Fear of men. Plenty of those at a DZ (arguably) Arithmophobia- Fear of numbers. Well, you do have to call "1000-2000-3000-4000" Before checking your canopy, right ? Astrophobia- Fear of stars or celestial space. For night jumpers only. Autodysomophobia- Fear of one that has a vile odor. Lots of sweaty, nervous people in a small plane. There's bound to be one. Automysophobia- Fear of being dirty. You may well have to PLF so be prepared. Autophobia- Fear of being alone. When you do your first solo jumps. Aviophobia or Aviatophobia- Fear of flying. - Especially if DiverDriver is at the controls. Barophobia- Fear of gravity. It's one thing you can't escape. Belonephobia- Fear of pins and needles. I've been sat in such uncomfortable positions on the ride to alti. Cainophobia or Cainotophobia- Fear of novelty. Something that rarely wears off in this sport. Caligynephobia- Fear of beautiful women. Nothing but on a DZ, eh fellas ? Catapedaphobia- Fear of jumping from high and low places. Applies to BASE too. Cathisophobia- Fear of sitting. Well there's not enough room in a Cessna to stand. Cheimaphobia/Cheimatophobia/Frigophobia/Psychophobia- Fear of cold. @ 13k in Europe outside of the summer season. Hell yeah. Chionophobia- Fear of snow. Applies to those from Scandanavian countries. (Yes, that means you Erno & Fudd.) Coprophobia- Fear of feces. This might be a problem at some DZ's what with their toilet facilities. Decidophobia- Fear of making decisions. You gotta make some quick ones if you have a mal. Dipsophobia- Fear of drinking. Something you DEFINATELY have to get over ! Eleutherophobia- Fear of freedom. Do I have to explain this one ? Epistemophobia/Gnosiophobia- Fear of knowledge. You can never have too much. Euphobia- Fear of hearing good news."Congratulations, you've earned your A Licence" "AAAAAGGGHHH ! ! !" Gymnophobia- Fear of nudity. Worry about this on your 100th jump. Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia- Fear of long words. Nothing to do with skydiving, I just thought this was funny Hypengyophobia or Hypegiaphobia- Fear of responsibility. You have to be responsible for yourself and, in part, the safety of others with you. Ilyngophobia- Fear of feeling dizzy when looking down. Piss poor spotters have this. You know who you are. Isolophobia- Fear of solitude, being alone. Again with the solo jumps. Ithyphallophobia- Fear of seeing, thinking about or having an erect penis. Applies to both Tandem Masters AND their passengers. Macrophobia- Fear of long waits.Try riding up to alti in a Cessna 206. Metallophobia- Fear of metal. You don't want to be afraid to pull silver now do you ? Mnemophobia- Fear of memories. You'll take these away with you every time Nephophobia- Fear of clouds. Well you are up with them. Nostophobia- Fear of returning home. Sorry, but you gotta leave the DZ at some point. Oneirophobia- Fear of dreams. One will be fulfilled when you first jump Oneirogmophobia- Fear of wet dreams. How did that one get in here ? Optophobia- Fear of opening one's eyes. Not a good idea to fall with your eyes closed. Ouranophobia or Uranophobia- Fear of heaven. You'll be closer to it than ever before. Panophobia or Pantophobia- Fear of everything. Skydiving IS, or at least will BECOMEE everything. Philemaphobia or Philematophobia- Fear of kissing. You might be lucky enough to get a kiss pass Potophobia- Fear of alcohol. More specific version of Dipsophobia Prosophobia- Fear of progress. Only one way to go in this sport....Forwards Sociophobia- Fear of society or people in general.The DZ IS a society, so get used to it. Sophophobia- Fear of learning. You better learn or you could end up hurting yourself....or others. Tachophobia- Fear of speed. Pointless getting a pro-track if you have this fear eh ? Triskaidekaphobia- Fear of the number 13. Those with this fear have been stuck on 12 jumps for several years. Xenophobia- Fear of foreigners. Skydiving is truly an international sport.
