Zarkon 0 #26 April 18, 2008 Quote Because I'm a student, I'm usually one of the last ones to leave the plane and it freaks me out to watch the jumpers before me exit the plane. I don't know if I will ever get used to watching it. I felt the same way for the first cpl AFF, and the first time I was asked to help spot I looked out/down then pulled back in and said 'fuck that I'll learn later' Edit to add: Now the canopy end scares the shit outa me

I must admit though, it's extremely cool hearing that "woosh" sound when people exit, but I much prefer (as with my AFF6, was by the door/pilot) going first. idrankwhat 0 #28 April 18, 2008 I get nervous on the first jump after a few weeks off. I find that checking your gear about 10-50 times on the way to altitude helpsAnd I've found that when I do it that it often spreads around the plane. It looks like a skydiving Macarena. I don't know if I will ever get used to watching it. I recall my first jump well, a twin otter. There was myself with 2 instructors and 4 other folks. I was just cool as a cucumber, no stress, no nerves, bring it on. Right.....the engines cut back, one of the guys opened this odd sliding door, popped his head out, nodded at the others, then 4 people left the airplane!!!! at point it all dawned on my like a train wreck. I kind of blacked out that exit I think.... I got more and more scared for at least the next 20 jumps. These days it is manageable, thats about all. dfairleigh11 0 #31 April 18, 2008 I *SHOULD* have been nervous jumping that 'van last Friday night - never jumped at Sebastian before, never jumped a Skyvan before, never jumped with any of the other people on the plane, and there we were launching a 5-way base for an 11-way... ...but I wasn't nervous for some reason. I DO still get nerves on occasion when I get on one of our 182's, tho Nerves are strange like that, I guess. Katinka 0 #34 April 22, 2008 After 20 jumps, my nerves got so bad I quit for a year. Just kept thinking of all the things that *could* go wrong. I've been back for about a year now, and it comes and goes. I am ALWAYS nervous first jump; always after being away a couple of weeks; always if there are a lot of new variables. After a couple of jumps, I'm the one saying let's go again! Sometimes I'm nervous about landing (after some ignoble landings on my part); sometimes it's performance. Always on the ride to altitude, I'm the one with the blank stare. But once that door opens, everything goes away. I love that total focus, can laugh about things going to hell, and then there's that wonderful canopy ride, just me and the breeze! BTW: I think I met you that weekend, and I was so nervous about the upcoming jump I didn't really get to talk to you.....

There is only one thing that is more important to me than jumping and that is my kids. I get so frustrated with myself for little things! It would be great to know if we met... I have only been at Sebastian 3 times, but I totally love the atmosphere and people. Not a clickish thing about the entire DZ.. wish I could say that for other FL DZ's.... Yes I meant some, just not saying which ones.... in all honesty, tho I have not had a bad experience at any Florida DZ... just seems like there is a lot more drama at some.... MarkM 0 #39 April 24, 2008 Was there that weekend too, but I don't know you from your dz.com nick handle. Anytime you do something new in skydiving you're going to be nervous. I was having a bad week a couple months back and the people I was flocking with put me on the camera step. I hadn't done that in a wingsuit before and it's tricky, so I was anxious and nervous. Normally that goes away right when you go through with it and things come out okay, but since I was already having a bad week I stayed anxious all day from it. Just expect to be anxious whenever you try something new. A night jump, new plane, new place, new exit, new canopy, whatever. It's perfectly normal. Conrad Vig: That's a dumbass way to work. It should be the other way around. Archie Gates: I know. That's the way it works.
