RoadRash 0 #3 March 30, 2004 ::covers hear::...Please don't mention it...I haven't had mine out yet and trying to avoid it at all costs.......I feel your pain though...A tooth that I had worked on a few years ago is now randomly hurting and making me wonder if I need to have more work done on it... ~R+R~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Fly the friendly skies...^_^...})ii({...^_~... vt1977 0 #4 March 30, 2004 Tell me about it... I've been on a waiting list to get the damn things out since December...and still no closer to even getting a date for having them out and they hurt like hell! Vicki
Daizey 0 #5 March 30, 2004 Im supose to get mine out...but anti getting anything out at this point... I need to have my tonsills out too...you'd think these last 16 cases of tonsillitis would convince me.... The worst is when my jaw hurts and my throat hurts at the same time....i really should get them out, but i think im hoping maybe all the pain will just eventually go away *daizey*
Slappie 9 #6 March 30, 2004 I know your pain well.. I've got all 4 of mine. Top 2 came in no problem. My bottom 2 are impacted big time. They've both created pockets and catch food, I have to keep them extremely clean or I wind up with an imfection. Have had dentists tell me for years I need to have them removed. I'm very alergic to pain though, so the thoughts of pain keep me from ever going back to get them removed. I just go see the doc, get some antibiotics and once the pain is gone... I never go back All total I could probably give a dentist an nice 2 week vacation somewhere with all the work that needs to be done in my mouth. I take fairly good care of my teeth, just years of abuse have taken their toll. kelel01 1 #7 March 30, 2004 You guys all need to go get them out! It doesn't hurt at all, and the drugs are really fun! Er, I mean, they really work. Let's just say I spent three days with my parents after the surgery in EXTREMELY high spirits. I even decided it was a good idea to show my Mom my tongue ring. I was too out of it to care. If I could trade places with y'all, I would. I know that I react well to the anesthesia AND the painkillers. However, I am aware that some people are not so lucky. Casch 0 #9 March 30, 2004 I don't know any of your pain I'm told I will never even grow wisdom teeth. The "Seed" for them, or whatever you call them, aren't there. The last X-ray showed no signs of em. I never grew in my adult eye teeth either. In fact I only have 26 teeth
kelel01 1 #10 March 30, 2004 You know, people are evolving into not having wisdom teeth. If you don't develop them, it means you're higher up on the evolutionary chain than those people who do develop them.

vt1977 0 #15 March 30, 2004 QuoteYou're on a waiting list to have your wisdom teeth removed??? Is that typical in the UK??? Very, very much so I'm afraid. The NHS is free (but we pay for it through sky high taxes), but shockingly bad. They don't give a flying f*ck how much pain I'm in with my wisdom teeth. My dentist referred me to have them removed in December... I don't get to see a Consultant until May. That appointment is for "assessment only" (why - I though my dentist had already assessed the fact that they need removing ) and no idea or indication of when they will finally take the damn things out I'm not impressed! For the record it would cost me £1,200 ($2,100+) to have them out privately but since I pay my vast amounts of tax I really don't see why I should. I only have 24 teeth. Had the wisdom teeth and 4 others pulled cause i have an incredibly small mouth. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug! SkymonkeyONE 4 #17 March 30, 2004 QuoteOw shit, my jaw is throbbing. I need to get these things yanked out. Could be worse. You could have them pulled then have two grow back, only to have to be extracted again, years later. Think that's impossible? Think again.

I had four removed when I was younger too (thank god I only had to have braces for 1 year and 4 months...phew...)...(I always thought I was a big mouth...goes to show you that anatomy doesn't always prove a point) that was extremely unpleasant, and why I don't want to have my wisdom teeth pulled...~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Fly the friendly skies...^_^...})ii({...^_~... nathaniel 0 #19 March 30, 2004 I'm getting mine out on Thursday. Only two, and only one fullsize...one's a baby wisdom tooth. At least go get xrays so the dentist can tell you if you'll get in trouble by waiting too long. nathanielMy advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. BethUK 0 #20 March 30, 2004 I went dentists today and he told me, one of mine is peeping through, no pain at all though, which is always good! Maybe when it gets bigger Ibuprofen is good for tooth ache, oh and whisky dabbed straight on where it hurts....(or just a big glass of it, why not!!) meltdown 0 #21 March 30, 2004 Got all of mine (2) yanked a couple of years ago - it was no problem, didn't even use the vicodin. Was loopy for a few hours though.
Shotgun 1 #22 March 30, 2004 QuoteQuoteYou're on a waiting list to have your wisdom teeth removed??? Is that typical in the UK??? Very, very much so I'm afraid. Yuck, sorry to hear about that. This is another reason I would not want to change the healthcare system in the US. I would definitely prefer to keep paying for my own health insurance rather than paying for mine and everyone else's healthcare through higher taxes (and having more of a hassle to receive care because of a "public" system). Some people want to change that over here, but it just seems like a bad idea to me... I had my wisdom teeth taken out for free through a medical study. That was pretty cool - all I had to do was evaluate the pain meds.
DTOXX 0 #23 March 30, 2004 I had two wisdom teeth pulled in the mid to late 80's. (upper left and lower right) About 4 years ago my dentist told me that the other teeth (lower left and upper right) would continue to grow as they had nothing opposing them. I don't know if they did grow more or if I was sensitive to his comments but over the next 2 years every time I moved my tougue over them it felt like they WERE longer. Finally I just had them yanked. No lose. Heres hoping you have your pain removed shortly. ------- D.T. Holder SIMstudy
Nightingale 0 #24 March 30, 2004 I don't think its nearly that expensive here. http://www.animated-teeth.com/wisdom_teeth/t5_extractions_costs.htm this quotes $155-$270 per tooth, if not encased in bone. another site: How much does wisdom teeth extraction cost? Simple extraction of a wisdom tooth can cost as little as $99 per tooth. The cost of wisdom teeth that are impacted can cost between $230 and $340 and even more. Because costs vary in different areas of the country, contact your dentist or oral surgeon for their charges.
champu 1 #25 March 30, 2004 I have an appointment to get mine out on May 17th. They recently started making my jaw a little sore so I'm nipping this in the bud. I only have three, but my dentist says, "Your teeth have the longest roots I've seen in my career, and your wisdom teeth are no exception, so the extraction may be... interesting." I don't know how common being out for the process is, but I definitely have no plans of being awake for that.
