freeflynate 0 #2 March 29, 2004 What style bike do you like? How much $$ are you wanting to spend? And do you want new or used? You dont need a parachute to skydive, but you will need one to skydive twice.
pleifer 0 #3 March 29, 2004 I will will proly (I wonder if it bugs people that I don't spell out probably) get flamed for this recomendation but a honda rebel will get about 70 mpg and can keep up with traffic. My spirit gets around 45-50 mpg... don't know about bikes like a buell blast or the susuki 500 (striped sport bike) or like a bandit (600cc) though if i was looking in that class i'd get a sv650.... rebels go for anyware from 600 to 1500 for the 80's model (they started making them in 85) and like 1500 to 2700 for the 90's models brand new they are 3000.... were as the shadows brand new are 5000$ (all numbers are dollars) just a little insight from my neck of the woods.... and I would recomend a motorcycle safety course... it will in most states wave the dmv exam and will pay for itself in savings from insurance.... _________________________________________ The Angel of Duh has spoke

Something a little more sedate but not as sedate as a goldwing. money - under $5k if I can get away with it. New or used doesn't matter to me Thanks for the info guys, keep it coming. cocheese 0 #9 March 29, 2004 Since it's mainly for transportation, get one with a windshield at least. If yo want a toy.. you don't need no stinkin windshield.Gas mileage shouldn't be a factor on a bike. Comfort and safety..... new tires are like static cling to the road. Ncrowe 0 #10 March 29, 2004 Check out Suzuki's 650 SV, a sporty bike with a torque'e V-Twin that gets pretty good mpg and is still a blast to drive. "Don't Mess Around With the Guy in Shades- Oh No!!! "

Conundrum 1 #14 March 29, 2004 Ninja 250 SV650 CBR F2/F3 FZR 600 Those are your best bets to start on and you can find them dirt cheap. Dont be a squid, wear the proper gear. Have fun, and be safe. Motorcylces are called Murdercycles for nothing. edit: I know you said not a crotch rocket, but I dont know anything about cruiser type bikes. edit#2: take the MSF course to learn to ride. Yeah, buy more gear then you think you need and wear it even down the street to grab some gas. I have seen some ugly things when you don't wear your gear I also don't know a damn thing about cruisers, sorry..
pleifer 0 #16 March 29, 2004 more on cruzers for under $5grand, you can get just about any used (and by used I mean like 2 years old with 1-3 thousand miles) someone who bought it cause they had money not because they ride.... anyway like i was about to say for $5000 can get you just about any middle weight bike new or near new, I love my vt750 but I don't think there is any bike out there that I would not buy... they are all pretty reliable... edited to add pic... that would be my favorite niece (only one too) my bike and I.... I'll let y'all figure out who is who _________________________________________ The Angel of Duh has spoke
