The Garden State Parkway is by far the most insane road I have ever driven on. Going down to the shore for a weekend at about 11 pm, you can go 85 or 90 mph and see people blow past you like you're standing still.

Pumping your own gas is uncivilized.

My point exactly. New Jersey is thrilling and the epitome of culture...:P

And Diablopilot: NO WAY! The Ranch has climbers and hippy college students to balance out the native Noo Yawkahz - you've got a definite handicap along with the hot-all-year-long DZs.

Even our t-shirts say "Friends don't let friends go to New Jersey!" !!!:D

I just love it when people who've never gotten off the interstate, or better yet, have never gotten off the parkway and the turnpike, start telling me how they know what Jersey is like, and how awful it is.

How great would any state be if you judged it solely from it's highways? At least in Jersey we have trees along most highways. That's more than I can say for NY and MD.

Judging either of those states you would think Watts, inner Baltimore, and Harlem were the highlights and tourist spots. Mississippi would be nothing but swampland and stagnant water. Alabama would be nothing but urban sprawl.

Jersey has everything. There are beautiful pure mountains. There are clean rivers. There are awesome beaches. There are wide open fields. There are small towns and urban centers. There are farms and there are cultural destinations. It also has modern day pollution, though for a great deal of which we have PA to thank.

I don't think there's any one thing another state could list as an attraction that Jersey couldn't also list. So until someone who appreciates the state shows you around, piss off!

ps - pumping your own gas means (A) you pay less, even with higher taxes on gas and (B) they have more time to fix your car. Who came up with the idea that gas stations should be quickie marts instead of places to get your car fixed?

Damn skippy. I only have three or four hot buttons that will guarantee a rant, but don't fuck with my guns and don't mess with Jersey.

Pumping your own gas in any other state 'would' mean it's cheaper, but somehow not in NJ. Going over the bridge means something around .20 cents cheaper per gallon than pumping your own in Philly.

Also, I'm with you on the NJ is nice, thing. Somehow, somewhere, NJ got it's reputation - Just like NoCal is crunchy, SoCal is plastic, New Yorkers are rude and Alabama is redneck, The Midwest is fat and women in Texas have big hair ...New Jersey is cheesy. Whatever. Most people who actually leave their own hometown know not to believe the BS. :)
