What if they are agoraphobic? Maybe it is just a fear of coming out of the closet. Could they come out for a while and then go back in? Does having an allergy to wool help? What if they live in a van, down by the river, it has no closet?

Being allergic to wool only helps people like Clay.

Vans do have closets. Ask Bill von; his van has a closet. It isn't parked down by the river, and I don't think he came out of it's closet. Amy would know the answer to that one.
