No, it's just that everyone has a "special" circumstance. If the staff gave the phone to Doug and TD everytime someone had a "special" circumstance, they'd never be able to skydive! Instead, they respond with, "I'm sorry. There are no refunds." When someone buys something under certain conditions, it's not the business owner's responsibility to go beyond those conditions.

b/f accidentlally bought jumps @ the wrong dz & didn't bother to go up to the supervisor to get money back.

my friend accidentally bought wrong gift cert for me, rather than complain & try to get my money back (which wouldn't happen at almost any business), I'm going to make the best of it & go to the new salon.

if my parents happened to buy me jumps @ the wrong dz, rather than trying to get money back & costing the dz tax money & transation charges, I'd just go enjoy the other dz.

b bought ax rather than az; therefore, either go to aboss & try hardest to get refund, or go to az & enjoy it anyway.

most businesses certificates say they may not be redeemed for cash value. Now I remember why I hated working in customer service.

Erica let me 'splain something to you. You have the ability to use the gift certificate at the different place, Laurel doesn't, she doesn't live there. That's the part you're not comprehending and I was, albeit sarcastically, pointing out.

People stopped listening to hear a long time ago. Instead we develop a response before the second syllable is uttered and insist we know what we're talking about. I'm not saying you, I'm saying people in general.

I also don't understand why people refuse to believe that CSC could have handled this better too :S

I know you're not Laurel - sorry if I'm coming off strong. I just feel strongly bout any kind of bad mouthing.

Keith, I did read the post. I wonder if SDC would have refunded the jumps in a much faster manner. If not, then either situation would have been the same, she'd have $100 on acct @ CSC or SDC - wouldn't matter the dz. Money @ CSC stays on accounts for years (one of my friends quit jumping for 4 years, came back & his full $850 left from original AFF type class was still there) - that's how most certs work. Can't use it now, fine, use it in 5 years when you have the chance.

Believe me, having money you need tied up somewhere it doesn't do you any good SUCKS!! Thats why I do anything possible to use it or sell it. Happens all the time when people don't pay attn to their purchases or schedules.

Uhhh... she doesn't live at Skydive Chicago either... what's your point here? He meant to get one for SDC, got CSC instead. Yes, she could go the 30-40 miles between the two of them and use it. I don't think Erica's example was that far off.

CSC could have handled it better, but I don't think it's reasonable to have expected them to (depending on what actually happened)
She could have handled it better, and is reasonably expected to (depending on exactly what happened)
My impression of what happened still remains that her boyfriend called in August, they said 'no, sorry, no refunds' and nothing else happened beyond that.

I have no loyalty to CSC, I've jumped there a few times, that's about it. I've just seen this happen more than once on this forum, and just happened to pick this instance to point out that I think it's not the right way to go about things. Laurel - sorry if you happened to be the one to make this post. I don't think you're a bad person either. Like I said in my first post, it's understandable when you get frustrated and have a knee-jerk reaction. Lots of people have done it.

That's fine. There are many tourists that come to Chicago each year. Many of them purchase jumps that they can't use because they don't live here. She is not special.

Doug made a post telling her the situation would be resolved when he heard about it. Should he have thrown her a parade?

Yes, I'm a little defensive because I love the dz. However, I dealt with the public while in college, and I've heard enough sob stories about why people want their money back. It happens all the time. If I buy a non-refundable ticket from an airline, do you think I'd get that money back if I told them I booked it for the wrong airport?

It always has been for peole that aren't necessarily in their dream job. Plus, everything started costing more recently & no one got a raise. however, business was a busy as ever... not getting paid to do extra work. bitter because something else happened like car broke & you don't have money to fix it. mind is on other things & so you think inside the box. many reasons.

The point here isn't that CSC is a bad place or the DZO's are ripoff artists. The point is if you're going to be in a customer oriented business, you have to expect to sometimes break the rules to make customers happy. If you don't like being in a customer oriented job, then do what Erica did and Get the hell Out. Look, I'm done here.

Right... and? You told Erica it wasn't possible for her to go someplace else, because she didn't live in Chicago. It was possible for her to go to CSC, she was only 30-40 miles away from it. You can argue the practicality of it, but she could have done it. So you really didn't have a right to discount her example.

You're completely missing the point. I don't doubt that CSC will break their own rules to make her happy (even though she isn't a customer, and they have no real reason to 'make her happy') The point is that the customer has some responsibilty here - they have some duty to not bash a company or product in a public forum until that company has had a reasonable chance to make things right with them. I don't think one phone call and not pushing the issue is fulfilling that side of the responsibility.

She shouldn't have to push the issue and only one phone call should have been sufficient. It isn't Laurel's responsibility to do their customer service for them.

Unfortunately, the GC states that it is only good for one year after the issue date. But that's minutia. Next steps are that I am awaiting to hear from Doug and I will then let everyone know the outcome. I appreciate people offering to purchase the GC from me, greatly, but I am going to let Doug have a shot at righting the situation because I owe that to him. Thanks again for those that have offered support. :)

Fair enough, we'll just have to agree to disagree on that point. I think it was her mistake, it was her responsibilty to push it if she wanted it fixed. And I'd be estatic if one phone call was all it took to get things fixed anymore. Depends on the conversation during that phone call as well I guess.
