I owe beer

Not that big of a deal for most of you, but it is amazing to me. I finally stood up a landing! This is significant for the fact I was on the radio for my first 16 jumps. So my last 5 jumps without the radio have been anything but graceful. Yeah you heard it right, it took 22 jumps for me to stand one up without the radio. It is a awesome feeling and thought i'd share it with you all. By the way I did a two way with a coach and 152mph was a bit much for my coach but man I get off on people sitflying with me.....we did turn two points though.

Thats awesome, congrats on the stand up.

Nothing wrong with it taking a bit to figure it all out. :)

I was so tickled to see you there, Aubrey, and more than tickled that you did that wonderful of a landing **cough**in the dark**cough**. (Did anyone figure out what the pilot was thinking?????)

Know what impressed me even more? You were nervous like me, and you handled it perfectly, did your jump, and yes, it is "all business"....but what a great bit of business, you know?

YAY You!!!

Aubrey,

Congrats! Good work! Great to meet you at Elsinore last month!

Skylimp :D

PS: But I did get 6 and 7 out of the way, grad dive when I get back from Hong Kong, from whence I type this. I think we're going out for eel testicles tonight for dinner. ;)

I dont care to re-word to presecond jump...hell i'm proud to buy beer. Michelle and Vanilla it was awesome seeing you two again, and glad to see you in the air again Michelle. Dont think I care to take the really really late sunset load again, hell I would almost say I got in a night jump so I'm well on my way to my D license.:P

I am not at all sure what happened...it wasn't for extra alti, so all I can think was some air traffic was below (gliders or something). He's a great pilot, so there was a real reason - I just don't know what it is. 'Twas a tad unnerving to hear the very experienced jumpers joking about landing first and getting cars out to the landing area... :S. Even Jose, who is a wonderful jumper, decided to bring it down from a clear and pull to like 8 before he deployed.

Oh well.

Irrespective of that, Aubrey, you did it well and did it right. And that is a good thing! And sunset jumps usually aren't quite that dark.

Wow Aubrey, I am SOOOOO glad to hear this. . .

How wonderful for you. I bet that did WONDERS for your canopy control confidence. . .I know you have been kinda worried about that. YAY. . .

Sorry I missed you guys on Sunday. . .I needed to get home early and take care of some stuff, but we will definitely get in some jumps together just as soon as you get that A. . .

the other load landed only a few minutes before you guys did, so maybe it was traffic from the other otter, canopies, and jumpers?

Wait, Kris, I thought that you and I were on the load right before the sunset load. That what I had been told. I was so happy and busy trying to order my new canopy in the gear shop after my last jump, that I could have missed a load right after mine.

I do remember feeling very concerned (although I never voiced it to anyone on the ground) that Michele and Aubrey were already in the plane on that sunset load, when I saw how very dark that it actually was. However, I knew that Lew was coaching Michele and would take care of her. I also knew that, since this is Elsinore, someone would be watching out for Aubrey, as well.

I had wanted to be on ther sunset load myself instead of the one that I jumped on, but sunset load was full...so we jumped right prior. I think that my jump was actually more of a true sunset load. Anyway, Elsinore's pilots are awesome, so he must have had his reasons.

They sent up one plane between us and sunset.

I thought so. Like I said, I was busy in the bunkhouse and gear shop. I was surprised when I looked down and noticed that Aubrey and the others was still getting on the plane. It really seemed later and darker than normal when they were to land.

They added a second "Sunset" load, full of tandems and high pullers along with the tracking group.

Couple of things to remember, people out there in internet land. If I wasn't all right with the conditions, I didn't have to jump. If it was too dark for my comfort, then I didn't need to leave the plane. The light was green, but that doesn't mean I have to jump...it means I can if I am comfortable with it.

I reconsidered jumping when we were holding to the east of the DZ. I took into consideration the time, the light, and the dark, and likely "navigational twilight" (or whatever it's called) which can complicate the depth perception. I made the choice to jump, and had anything happened to me, I would be fully and wholly responsible - not Lew, not the pilot; ME, and me alone.

It was a tad unnerving for those in the tracking group joking about having the pilot radio down to get car lights onto the landing area...

All that being said, we have wonderful pilots, a wonderful ground crew, and they would've called the plane (there were 4 tandems on that load) if it really became too dark. Whatever the reason, the pilot did what he did because of safety, no other reason.

I had fun, but I'm not sure Aubrey did...:P. That was probably a rather unnerving one for a first sunset load...
