ChasingBlueSky 0 #1 March 12, 2004 Ugh, these things were annoying the last time they invaded the area. I was 14 at the time and was sweeping up swarms off them off the driveway every morning. I can only imagine what it will be like with them flying into you on final and getting them out of my canopy. I hope those little yellow beetles that look like lady bugs don't come back to complicate the problem. On a side note - I remember eating some on a dare. They taste like mash potatoes if you cook them on the grill. Yahoo News Clicky_________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... EricaH 0 #3 March 12, 2004 OMG... i remember those, I was 9 & living in Virginia. I've had loads of arguements w/ people bout them & wondering where they went. People thought they were 4 year, but I argued that the noise was so crazy, there was no way I could've missed them in the past. I liked finding their exoskeletons (sp?) stuck on the trees... So, we get um up bad up here in Chicagland too? That sucks that it affects skydiving; hadn't thought bout that. There is no can't. Only lack of knowledge or fear. Only you can fix your fear. jessefs 0 #4 March 12, 2004 Yay! Now I don't have to take a break for lunch in the middle of the day, I can just open my mouth under canopy for a nutritious snack any time!! <* Spread the Love! *>
flyinghonu 0 #5 March 12, 2004 I was just talking about those little sh*ts at the DZ last weekend. People were complaining about the noise of the crickets in the summer. I said obviously you've never been around during the season of Cicadas back east....yet another reason I love CA. Kennedy 0 #6 March 12, 2004 A lot of people were bitching about how bad they were last year in Bethesda (DC area). I didn't have the heart to tell them that those were just the genetic failures that woke up too early. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
bch7773 0 #7 March 12, 2004 a few years ago the 17 year ones and the 14 year ones happened on the same year. the noise was just horrible... i think i heard on the news that at certain times of the day it was actually louder then a lawnmower right next to you. plus you couldn't walk around barefoot because you would step on the piles of dead ones laying around.
