Dude, read the first few pages, man. FCC is government (or did you miss that incarnation?). FCC laid the restrictions and regulations and forced CCC to do something... fire Stern. It is not a large leap there and if you dig, you will find the same thing. My facts are in line.

The government did not pull Stern from the air, CCC did. There were choices made by both Stern and CCC that could have changed the outcome. Everyone made their choices and Howard is off the air.

That is a direct quote from the First Ammendment to the Constitution of The United States. It is all three, because all three are wrapped into the same ammendment. If this holds and Stern is taken off the airwaves, it will open a whole can of worms. People will be yanked off the air left and right because censors will use Stern's case as the basis and therefore violate the ENTIRE first ammendment, just as the Patriot Act violated our ENTIRE 4th ammendment. So it isn't a reach to make the assumption that our First Ammendment was violated... EVERYONE's first ammendment, not just Stern's. With the implications of the Bill of Rights, the first ammendment also gives us the right to listen to whomever we want to listen to, including Stern if we so choose. Hence, our rights were impeded upon.

I'll agree that a business should do with its employees as it sees fit, but I do not understand what the FCC is getting its panties in a bundle about. I do not understand how people are so okay with censorship. Fine, so it was a business that made that decision, but that decision was made based on the FCC's actions.

Agreed. I feel that my responsibility is to defend the ammendment, even if it means siding with someone I really don't care about in the first place (Stern).

That reminds me of a quote by...someone (I don't remember who). It goes something like, "Many people preach the freedom of speech to make of for the freedom of thought, which they avoid."

You can't have it both ways. You can't say that you support free speech if you want to censor what you don't like. Free speech means that there's a risk that members of the KKK will go on Springer and talk about their beliefs. There's a risk that Dr. Laura will go and tell women to not get an education since they should be housewives.

The responsibility of having such a freedom of speech is taught to those in journalism and broadcasting while they're in school and on the job. They know not to do the whole slander/libel thing. They know not to cuss. The rest of us have a similar responsibility. We know not to shout "FIRE!" in a crowded room if a fire doesn't exist. Pretty much, don't say something that can infringe on someone else's rights. As someone earlier had stated, you do not have the right to not get offended. If such a right existed, we'd all be in trouble!

Stern was lambasting the FCC and the "morals commitee" he was also blasting GWB on a public airway.

He was making a big stink, people were listening.. He was warned more then one time to slow down, let this shit blow over and get back to being the sexist asshat he is. But he decided it was time to make a stand he was rebeling against CCC's execs who buckled under FCC heavy handedness. Plus the FCC and the morals commitee for trying to quiet him.

He was just trying to make a point. Personaly I think his point was made.

Mal is making a very loud statement about this becoming a basis for the goverment to be able to take away even more of our rights.. This is a watershed act of goverment blackmailing a large company to get it's way..
