jumpy 0 #51 March 10, 2004 QuoteI say yes. I know a lot of people here don't like Metallica because Metallica opposes free distribution of their music. And others do not like the RIAA for enforcing copyrights. My thought is that it is theft, and even though these artists may have a lot of money, they made it through copyright. What are your thoughts? It is stealing but i do it and i can sleep at night. In reality i download songs and if i like the band i buy there album anyway.. even if i already have the whole thing. I especially do this with local music... i don't let anyone burn any of my australian cd's and australian dvd's...
newsstand 0 #52 March 10, 2004 Unless you have it with permission of the copyright holder it is theft. Does it hurt Metallica, probably not. Might it hurt the next up and coming artist, maybe depends on if you then go out and buy the full album. Lets think of this as a skydiving photographer instead. He/she shoot a really great picture that every one here loves and downloads and uses a screensaver but no one sends him/her any cash. He/she has to hock the camera to eat and gets a job flipping burgers and can't afford to jump any more. No chance of another great picture from the artist. The artist is certainly injured and I would hold that civilization is injured to a small degree too. "Truth is tough.
