I also thought that while seabiscuit was a good movie in a few years it will be forgotten. It had no lasting value in my mind. As for a comparison of the two I didn't see much similarity other than they both featured horses in a race. But that's about the only thing they had in common. GARYC24 3 #10 March 8, 2004 Even tho it was based on a true story.. I saw it and basically, I found it very dry (no pun intended!) and typically boring. On the negative side, they mentioned the territory of Iraq several times, which didn't exist yet in the 1880's. If they had called it Persia, it would have been more accurate, but maybe they're playing to dumb audiences who don't know where and what Persia was... Then sailing out of New York they pass by the Statue of Liberty. At first I thought; hey, that wasn't built yet! But checking my facts, yep, built in 1886, so it would have been brand new in that time frame. And I'm really tired of Hollywood making movies where the hero starts out as a drunken bum. They must think that all the heroes in the world started out as worthless drunks. Sheesh. I believe it is possible for a hero figure to have had his stuff together before becoming a hero, without having to first pull himself out of the gutter. On the positive side, I liked the culture clash between the American and the Arabs; half-breed cowboy versus royal family, and half-breed horse versus pure-blood thoroughbred. I liked the cowboy morality; "no race is worth a man's life." And the photography was fantastic, with incredible desert and mountain scenary. The ending was also a nice touch.
