Vallerina 2 #3 February 26, 2004 I tried the Atkins diet when I was in college, fat, and desperate to lose weight. I woke up, had eggs and cheese, and I lasted a whole 5 hours on that diet! I went and had an ice cream sandwich later on that day! Anyone telling me that my body "can't process the carbs" in my daily yogurt and oatmeal needs mental help. I lost more weight eating good carbs and not putting my body through Hell than I did doing anything else. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

aprilcat 0 #6 February 26, 2004 Beer is a 'good' carb if you have eggs with it. Only the eggwhites though. Camelot II, the Electric Boogaloo!

AndyMan 7 #10 February 26, 2004 QuoteSo beer is full of the good carbs? Actually, yes. Beer is usually made with by cooking whole wheat grains, among other healthy tasty pieces of goodness. It's not that nutritionally different then a bowl of oatmeal. Beer is "whole grain", rich in fiber and complex carbohydrates. The "bad" carbs are overly refined grains, such as white flour and sugar... Which don't tend to be in many beers, and when they do appear they're usually in sweetened beers like a Honey Brown. The only problem with beer is when you have 12 of them in one sitting. Thats the nutritional equivalent of having 12 bowls of oatmeal for breakfast.... That said, I don't know what Atkins says about the matter, nor do I care. Atkins is not healthy eating. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. brits17 0 #13 February 26, 2004 QuoteThat said, I don't know what Atkins says about the matter, nor do I care. Atkins is not healthy eating. _Am I second that... your body NEEDS carbs. Major fuel source for the body. Why do you think cereals, grains, etc are at the bottom of the food guide pyramid and are mostly carbohydrates? Glucose (contained in carbs) is the preferred fuel for the brain and most body cells. Protein is not a substitute... protein CAN be used to produce glucose and fat can be used to produce ketone bodies, but a sufficiency of carbohydrates prevents this from happening. Your body needs 50-100 grams of carbs daily to prevent ketosis (when ketone bodies are produced faster than they are used). It is recommended 250-300 g CHO (carbs) daily. OK, sorry for going on there, but geez, Atkins is bad news IMO. Not a substitute for eating right and exercising right. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com
