John,
No one said you made it up and no one said you do not have freedom of speech. I was just wondering if you ever had a happy thought or used your "freedom of speech" to comment on something in a positive light. It must be very dark and dreary in you world.

I do not need to be a Polyanna in order to be happy. If it makes you happy to believe positive but untrue things about the USA, please go ahead, whatever floats your boat.

I find it better, on the whole, to at least make the effort to be truthful and deal with it.

If I wrote anything untrue in this thread about zoning laws, restricted airspace or small airports, I'm open to being corrected.

Do you have anything good to say about anything?

Nope. Not even when he met me. He didn't say "good ta meetcha" or anything, just looked at me crosseyed. (Well, to be fair, it was at the POPs record, and he wasn't having a good day...;))

(oh, for Pete's sake, Kallend, relax. I am teasing you.)

Actually you are right. I was totally distracted when we met.

When we were introduced I was in the middle of the famous Perris Hoop Course trying to find someone who could sign my logbook for the last jump I'd made in Illinois.

I'll do better next time:)

Would it make you feel better if I said that you are correct? Would you be able to be happy then?

Your attitude reminds me of someone who would pop a childs balloon for their own good, because "it would eventually end up that way." You might want to reflect, and think about it for a minute.

Nobody said I want to have a toxic waste dump in my yard, and No one said anything about the number of closing airports in the US, or even about being thankful for the president not being in their neighborhood so that the airspace was restricted.

SO as far as zoning laws, number of airport closings, and resricted airspace because of presidential visits goes, you are probably 100% correct.

Do you feel better now?

As far as what I love in the US; I love the fact that I can own my 4x4 pickup, carry a gun around in the gunrack(if it is properly carried;unloaded, if I'm in Illinois I will make sure that I have my FOID card, and not in town).

I love that I can go out on my land that I bought for the sake of hunting deer, riding 4 wheelers, and building bonfires and enjoy myself.

I love that I have the choice to go deer hunting (as long as it is during hunting season).

I love that I can voice my opinions, because I have rights under the first amendment.(unless it offends somone's finer sensibilities, in which case I no longer have the right of free speech).

I love that I can jump out of airplanes(as long as they are properly equipped, there is a NOTAM filed with the FAA, and I am wearing a TSO'd rig)

I am sure that there are more, but I think that I have made my point.[:/]

What has that got to do with correcting untruths spouted by adults who should know better?

If YOU came up to me and showed me a balloon that you claimed would never burst, I would take that as a challenge.

ANd if YOU make untrue statements on DZ.COM, I take that as a challenge too, unless someone beats me to it.

The USA is a wonderful country, but you don't have to make false claims about it to indicate how wonderful it is.

Can you grow ANY crop on your land without breaking any laws? If not, then you are not free do do as you please on your land in the most elementary way possible.

The point you made is that you are irritated when someone points out that you told an untruth.

Once again, you are correct. But, I am trying to understand what your point is. I even went so far as to tell you what I intended on doing with "my" land and you still have the desire to poke large holes in something that was pretty self explanatory. If you could help me to understand what you are trying to say, I can help you to understand what I meant. So please break it down to the most elementary way possible.

Wow, Kallend, you really are negative. So many posts and not a single positive thing to say? I know you have something. It's ok, you won't lose cool points. Your comments are relavent, but come on, something positive??.....I really do want to hear what you've got to say too......as long as it's positve.

To be fair HE can do anything HE wants to on HIS land. I'm guessing HE doesn't want to put a toxic waste dump on it. So as far as the truthfullness of his claim goes, it has to be judged by what HE wants. He didn't say anyone can do anything THEY want to. So unless you know what HE wants to do with it, this whole silly argument is moot.

The USA has the best higher education system in the world.

The USA has the best military in the world.

The USA is spectacular, and anyone that hasn't traveled the country should make the effort to do so.

The USA has a population that is, by and large, the most generous to be found anywhere.

US plumbing is the best!

The USA is so good you don't have to make up stuff about it, just telling the truth is quite enough. And I won't mention the quality of American TV.:P

Yeah, well, that claim could have been made by an Iraqi too, as long as what HE wanted was what Saddham wanted too. That makes the entire statement irrelevant.

Not if it made that Iraqi proud and happy about his country. That was the point of his post. He was happy and proud that he can do what he wants on his land. He can, and he's proud and happy about that. There's no argument you can make to invalidate that.

If you did not have anything nice to say why did you start posting?

Please just say one positive hting about the US and I will be happy

As far as I understand, you believe that everyone in the USA is not a law abiding citizen. Am I correct?

If you believe (for the most part) that American citizens are law abiding, then I shouldn't have to put a disclaimer on every single word that I post here.

Should I put a disclaimer on my initial post that says: Only consider this statement if you are a law-abiding citizen, all others disregard.

Would the disclaimer make it easier to swallow?

It seems to me that there is an underlying motive in your thought process. My question for you is what is it that you want to do on your land, that according to laws you cannot do? Because the last time I checked, I am a law abiding citizen of the USA. It is implied, as a law abiding citizen that I will continue to be as such.

Show me where anything I have said about this country is untrue. One truth you yourself have proved, life from your point of view is a "very dark and dreary world". I feel sorry that you are not able to "deal with it" without throwing a cloud over another persons sunshine. That doesn't make you any more right, it just makes you mean spirited.

I didn't say you said anything untrue.

I pointed out some truths about restrictions on what can be done on your own land, and about the state of GA airports, in response to previous posts on these topics.

I agree that he can do anything he wants, but it's only legal if what he wants is in line with what the government says he can do. That's not freedom in my book.

To claim that it's a "free country" when an adult citizen risks being thrown in jail if she plants marijuana on her own land for her own exclusive use, or smokes it in the privacy of her own home, is stretching the definition of freedom. All IMO, of course. You may have a different definition of freedom.

While I, in particular, happen to be very happy to read that you recognize some great things about our country. I am going to ride your coat-tails for a moment and ask the "whys" behind these great facts you cite.

How and why do education systems reach such quality (higher education in your example)?

How and why did our military reach such excellence?

How and why are its populace able and willing to be the most generous in the world?

How and why are the US utilities (plumbing in your example, but I'll add telecom, etc) the best?

I'm pointing only to those because it is in those areas, where our progress has been at a rate that dwarfs any civilization in the history of the world. It wasn't just because of where we happen to be. It is because of what we happen to be.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

No - it was a response to your criticism of me in respect of my pointing out the truth about land use and airspace restrictions in the USA. Things that no-one has disputed.

It seems that having the truth pointed out upsets a lot of Polyannas who like to wear their patriotism on their sleeves. You didn't like having the truth pointed out, that is very apparent.

You don't like the message so you attack the messenger.

You are right, no one has disputed your "truths", in fact some has already said you are right.
I attack the messenger for bring your negative view of everything and everyone to a thread where you asked not to come in the first place. And before you start, it is not about freedom of speech, it is about common courtesy and respect. You seem to take great pleasure in undermining anything positive or upbeat posted by others. Calling people who wear their patriotism on their sleeve Pollyannas was un-called for and petty. And for the record, I have earned the right to were my patriotism anywhere I choose.
