Strong 28' aerosport packing manual

Recommended Posts

By "sleeve", are you refering to the diaper that wraps around the base of the foded parachute? Or does it have an actual sleeve that encloses the entire parachute?

I service two Strong aerosports.

This is a canopy that they only sold for a year or two. It has a ring of vents about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way up the canopy. Deploys in a nylon free sleeve with full line stowage on the sleeve with a pull down cover. Mine are in seats and they are the easist strong seats you'll ever do.

Almost nobody at Strong knows they even made it. Unless they get some in to pack there may be NOONE there that has ever seen one. I'm not even sure Ted remembers it. Whenever I talk to their employees nobody has ever heard of it.

I actually don't know if I have a copy of the manual or not. The owner may have it. I haven't serviced them in a couple of years because he hasn't had a plane. Used them in a T-6. I'll email him and see if he as the manual. After that I'll look and see if I can find it here.

If you've ever packed a canopy in a sleeve then it's no big deal. But it looks like you might be new enough to have never seen a sleeve.:P

Let me see what I can find. I don't think you'll get much help from Strong. Not because they don't want to but because they can't.

BTW I've asked a LOT of riggers but I've never found one that even knew this existed let alone packed one.

I also like this design alot.

Strong doesn't have a manual for these on their site. I think I asked them for one once and they couldn't find a copy.

Just musing:

That brings up new issues in the argument riggers have about having to pack things according to the manufacturer's manual. While using the original manual makes sense here, in the FAA's eyes does no manufacturer's instructions available equal 'grounded' or equal 'pack any way you like'? :)
(And this is distinguishing between a particular rigger having a manual for a particular pack job, versus what the official manual from the manufacturer is.)

Not that they don't have it. But they couldn't find it that day.

Like I said, most of the the Strong employees I've talked to don't know they made it.

Oops, almost forgot. It has a spider slider with stops lines on the suspension lines to keep it from going all the way to the skirt.:S And I HAVE pictures. But they're too big to attach. I'll resize them later and attach some.

A little off point Terry...but didn't someone experiment with using a free-sleeve on a square a long time ago?

The idea was S-folding the sleeve into the container was better than S-folding the canopy into a bag...?

My wife is the packer & has been for 20 years but she's never seen anything like this. I recall someone mentioning in a thread somewhere that they dont have pilot chutes but this one is in a paracushion 303 with a pilot chute & the spider slider is very funky
I'll see if i can upload some photo's

Funny thing... several resellers specifically indicate that the Strong Squadron Seat PEP are available with the 28' Aerosport canopy :D...

Interesting that Paragear can sell it, even when SE doesn't know they make it ;).

PS - I'd like a copy of that manual/photo's when you get'er done...

Got hold of Mike SE who knows this rig.
I mentioned this thread, and got this response:

We haven't sold one in years but as with all of our products, if someone wants one we can and will build it for them. That's why Para-gear would still have it listed as an available configuration. I've posted an
owners manual for the Para-Cushions with the Aerosport canopy online on our manuals page. The direct link to the manual is: http://strongparachutes.com/Documents/PDF_Files/PCRevB.pdf

Nice folks there at SE! :)

PS - For those going to PIA, we think there will be one there for folks to take a look at if you haven't see one before (like ME). :)
