Aviatrr 0 #108 September 27, 2003 Since there will be such a large turnout it seems, is anybody interested in jumping an intentional cutaway rig? I'd like to try to get RWS to bring theirs down, or see if they will let me borrow it to take down. If not, I'm pretty sure Jump Shack has one they loan out. We would need a rigger to re-pack the reserve each time...well, depending on the rig. Strong has a rig with 2 mains and a reserve(all on the back), but I think RWS uses a modified sport rig with a belly mounted reserve(for the last chance). Maybe we can get a rigger that will be attending to help out with that. Mike

It's not really something most of us are ready for, and alot of us are not even qualified for it yet. From the USPA BSR's: QuoteSection 2-1: Basic Safety Requirements J. Extraordinary skydives 2. RevJim 0 #115 September 27, 2003 QuoteEvery skydive is extraordinary! Bingo! We have a winner! "Rod, what wonderful prize do we have for our winning contestant tonight?" "Well, Bob, tonight we have an all expense paid trip to the kitchen to grab a nice glass of wine, followed by a wonderfully relaxing trip to the bathroom for a nice, long soak in a tepid bubble bath, followed by an hour long massage from a semi-professional masseuse!" That's right. Every jump is extraordinary. Maybe not to us, but to someone, somewhere, that won't even get on a plane it sure is!It's your life, live it! It's not really something most of us are ready for, and alot of us are not even qualified for it yet.Quote Sorry, I should have stated the "qualifications"(which I think are total bullshit, BTW) for such a thing....but I really disagree with the "not ready" comment. If you are "not ready" for a cutaway, you should not be skydiving. You really have the odds stacked in your favor when you are doing an intentional cutaway - you have TWO reserves, and you KNOW what's coming(whether you pack a mal or just plan on cutting away from a "good" canopy). The way I look at it, personally....if somebody can't handle an intentional cutaway, chances are they can't handle an unplanned cutaway. I guess I was lucky I got that out of the way on jump #1 - I never had any doubt after that as to whether I could handle it properly or not. Mike
 RevJim 0 #117 September 27, 2003 You do have a point. I didn't say we couldn't handle it though. If you can't handle it, well, yes, there's a problem. I also know people with thousands of jumps and no reserve rides. If they want to do it, let them. But that's where it ends, with the exception the Tandem I's I don't think they are required. Well, you know what I mean. A cutaway, intentional or not, I thikn is required for the TM rating. It's not required of anything else, so why force it. Practice at least yearly in the hanging harness. Pull your handles at repack time. KNow your gear, and HAVE FUN!It's your life, live it! Yes, a cutaway is required to be a tandem master/instructor. 2. Yes there will be a cutaway rig and rigger at the boogie. 3. FYI the skyhook only works with a deployed main. It serves no purpose in the reserve deployment in the cases of a reserve only deployment, bag lock, horseshoe, bridle wrap or PC in tow. If you get the chance to try the cutaway rig with the skyhook try it.
 Aviatrr 0 #122 September 27, 2003 Quote2.
