Paige 0 #1 February 13, 2004 I was laid up in the hospital Tuesday starting at 4am (didn't leave till 6pm) when I began gettin sick every 5 or 10 minutes (no exageration). It was like that was only job, to get sick. I had run a fever, got a nasty cough, and a bad headache. The doctor said it wasn't the really bad kind of meningitis and that I should just spend the next 2 weeks relaxing as much as I possibly can to let my body rid itself of the bug. I've felt worse today and may end back up in the hospital. I'm hoping I can get this out of the way and graduate. If not my teachers said they would let me take my tests and stuff in the hospital or my house if I was in really bad shape. Anyone every had this? Know someone who did? Any suggestions? I feel like I got plowed over by a truck Mad appreciation for any help!Tunnel Pink Mafia Delegate www.TunnelPinkMafia.com
skygod7777 0 #2 February 13, 2004 i'm sorry to hear that paige. i wish i had something to say that would help, but i don't. hope you get better soon. but look at it one way, if you don't graduate, then that's just one more semester at school to party, right later
lawrocket 3 #3 February 13, 2004 Well, if it's meningitis, be glad you only feel like you got hit by a truck, as opposed to getting your head caught in the gears of a combine. It's bad stuff. Good thing they caught it. Follow doctor's orders TO A TEE! My wife is hotter than your wife.

Michele 1 #6 February 13, 2004 Geez, Paige. Do EXACTLY what the Dr tells you. EXACTLY. If you don't understand something, ask. And by all means, go to the hospital if you need to. Take care of yourself, and realize the teachers have handled this kind of thing before...they'll find a way to get it to work. So don't waste any energy on that...just get better! Vibes being sent, and a hug or two for good measure. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

popeyefireman 0 #10 February 13, 2004 Meningitus is a infection in your csf cerebral spinal fliud. There are two types, Viral ( what you want to have, and Bacterial, the one you don't want if you have to choose.) Symptoms such, from head ache to photosensitive/photophobia, ache aty the base of you neck and flu like symtoms. There is no treatment for the infection (viral infection) except to treat the symptoms. Bacterial will be a long hospital stay and maybe a trip to the moruge. Do what they tell you and rest a lot. Sorry for all the spelling errors. I am a paramedic, not a english teacher. There is a Doctor on the forum go by skydoc i think, he should know even more then me. cyric77 0 #16 February 13, 2004 I"m an RN in the ER, it sounds as if you were dx with viral meningitis, because they let you go home. As was posted above there are two basic types of meningitis bacterial and viral, both of which have many different strains of the disease. The treatment for bacterial menigitis usually involves a hospital stay, heavy doses of systemic antibiotics, iv fluids, anti-pyretics(meds. for fever.), and close monitoring of neurological status. Bacterial meningitis is very serious, and can be life threating if not caught early.( a lot of this of course depends on the bacterial strain of the disease.) Viral meningitis when diagnosed is treated by treating the symptoms. Rest, increase fluids, tylenol or motrin for pain and fever, anti-emetics for nausea and vomiting if your MD presrcibed them, ect.. Just be sure to follow up with your doctor, follow his discharge plan for your specific case, and go to the ER immediatly if your symptoms worsen. swilson 0 #17 February 13, 2004 I'll second what everyone here has said. I had the bacterial form of meningitis when I was 14 months old. The first doctor my mom took me to diagnosed it as colic and sent her on her way. On the elevator ride down, I went into a seizure so she took me straight back up (I imagine she was pretty freaked out too) and demanded to see a different doctor. He diagnosed it within a minute based on symptoms and had me rushed via ambulance to the University hospital an hour and a half away. Long story short, I spent a long time in the hospital with some pretty nasty drugs. When I went in, there was a pretty good chance I wasn't coming out, but I pulled through. The only residual effect (that we can find to date) was that I'm nerve deaf in one ear. Considering the possibilities and that this happened 26 years ago, I think I got off lucky. As for suggestions, all I can say is listen to your doctor. It's amazing how a well rested body can repair itself, but it still takes time. I hope you recover quickly. peacefuljeffrey 0 #20 February 13, 2004 ~~~vibes for Paige~~~ I hope you feel better real soon! Meningitis is nothing to trifle with. I came back to college from a weekend away and my buddy told me that a girl I was friends with from the college paper had died over the weekend from meningitis. (I don't know which she had.) It was a nasty shock. She went to the hospital with severe headache and she died there a day or so later. Really sweet girl. I'm guessing that if you've made it this long, you don't have the type she had, and for that I'm certainly glad. Rest up and get jumping again ASAP. --Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind...
