Airviking 0 #1 November 5, 2010 There's a rig listed with a Monarch main and a Cypres, which will expire end of next year. The reviews of the Monarch are a little unsettling, specifically the dive-inducing end cell closures. Any comments? The AAD isn't important to me, but If the rig has one that is good for a season, then great! Can I just have it removed when it expires?I believe you have my stapler. councilman24 37 #2 November 5, 2010 Not enough information. your size, canopy sizes, rig manuf/model. And what have you jumped? 30 years and 200 something jumps. All round?I wouldn't recommend anybody my a monarch (non ZP) as a first and or primary canopy these days unless they knew what it was knew they wanted it. For cheap. I've got a couple of non ZP canopies I jump. But my primary canopies are ZP. No sense these days have a primary, fun canopy non zp. I'm old for my age. I can't comment about the Monarch, I don't know it. But yes. Your rigger will remove the CYPRES when it expires. He can't legally repack the reserve with an AAD that is expired. It doesn't have to be there, but if it is it has to be maintained according to the manufacturers instructions. You don't have to put a new one in if you don't want to. Got current a couple of months ago, My last rig was a Pegasus, which was a 220ft 7-cell, F-111. The Monarch I'm looking at is 195ft, which puts the loading at 1:13. It is ZP. It's in a Vector-II.I believe you have my stapler.
councilman24 37 #5 November 5, 2010 Sorry, I had a brain fart about the monarch being ZP. While some folks like it, the ones I know more tolerate and defend it than like it. There are other options that would be better. It would be one of my last picks. I'd suggest I Triathlon or a Sabre if you want a parachute that opens. Or later designs if you want it to snivel 700 ft. I still like parachutes that open so I have a triathlon and two sabre's (not sabre IIs). I'm old for my age. riggerrob 643 #6 November 5, 2010 Rumour has it there are vast differences between early and late production Monarchs. Early Monarchs had a reputation for hard openings, etc. while late Monarchs were decent canopies, slightly better than Sabre 1. One of my clients has been happily jumping his Monarch 190-ish for the last decade. Precision mailed me a line kit and I re-lined it last year and he is in no rush to replace his Monarch. faulknerwn 38 #7 November 8, 2010 My first canopy was a Monarch 135 and it opened great and landed soft. And it was all ZP. If you can get the seller to let you make a jump on it to make sure you like it - that'd be good...
