Uh-oh! Hubby will be jumping in June! I need ta shape up!!

YEE-HAW!!! He said as long as he has our business kickin', he'll take it easy and start AFF!!!

Here's the problem/question...I want to lose as much weight as possible so I can be in good shape when he starts. That's only 4 months away...

What's the fastest way to lose weight and get into shape?? I have a gym-type treadmill, and a gym-type stationary bike, and Pilates DVD's...blah blah blah...and my father-in-law was a boxer, so I know I could get a heavy bag and he'd help me out too...but I need RAPID weight loss and build some muscle. Truth is I really should have some more strength than I do to be a good canopy pilot anyhow. If I had a steering line break I'd be hurtin' to land on rear risers...

An' to all you Aggie's that I'll be visiting at the end of this month...well, y'all will have to deal with seeing me in all my voluptuosity, since I can't melt that fast...[:/] And one very IMPORTANT rule: you can make fun of Acme's fall, but NOT Acme's shape!!! >:(

SHWEEEEEET!!! While I was typing this, my new Cypres 2 was delivered!!! I nearly kissed the UPS dude!!!! Now I need a dang rig....I'm waiting for DHL to deliver that! :ph34r:B|;)

Ok, so what's up?? Fastest way? OTC diet pills help any? I'm desperate! (I liked the 'determination' thread...that was inspiring to me :)

3 heathly square meals a day, nothing else

run/jog/walk gradually going longer/farther every week

work the abs, helps with running

calestenics
and if you have 4 months.....join the army. Basic training does wonders for everyone.:D

Gym-personal trainer-serious exercise-strictly controlled diet.

That WILL give you the best weight loss, and will not leave you feeling totally wiped out/dead in a few months.

You'll lose weight, crank up the cardio, and flush the body of toxins.

If you can't afford a personal trainer, at least get a gym membership.

Do 3 days of cardio (aerobics, running, biking, swimming, ect.) and 3 days of strength training (pump that iron!). alternate too. 1 cardio, 1 strength, 1 cardio, 1 strength, 1 cardio, 1 strength, 1 day off.

It's gonna make you wish you were dead the first few weeks, but as you adapt to it, you're gonna wonder how you ever functioned without the gym.

Really. I used to do that. It works.

Use all of the cardio equipment that you can-- cross-training is ideal. To build muscle, you really need to do some resistance work-- either lift some weights or do some bodyweight exercises (push-ups, pull-ups, squats, lunges, and abs.) Pilates is excellent and should balance out your routine with some flexibility. Work yourself into it, though. If you go nuts the first couple of days, you'll get so sore you'll want to quit. Diet is about 80% of the weight-loss game. We all know what are good-for-you foods. Don't sweat all the high protein/low carb hype. Everything in moderation, I say.

And a few other things--

Tempting though they may be, I'd really recommend that you stay away from the OTC diet pills. There is no standardization for so much of that stuff that you really don't know what you're getting and how much-- from pill to pill, even. It's mostly caffeine, often disguised in herbal form(s). That will increase your levels of stress hormones, deplete your adrenals, make you cranky, potentially depressed, could give you panic attacks, stroke or worse.

Just watch what you eat, and exercise.

Depending on how much you want to loose.

If you want to loose 20-30 lbs.
You can get that done in about 1-2 months with Atkins diet. Please keep in mind it is a chemical diet so it means no salt, no Carbs, no sugar. Not even a bite. I have lost 7 lbs. in one week and 1 pond the other because of one slice of bread. So absolutely none. You can have Eggs, meat and vegetables.
I recommend speed walking running if you can.
It is very hard to have energy when you are on the Atkins but it is really important to work out and build muscle, or you will gain it all back and more very fast.

If you go to the gym there is equipment that will burn more calories and is a lot less strenuous then running.
I like the elliptical machine you kind of have to find what you like. For me there is nothing more pain full then running more mentally then any thing else.

Man I hear ya...hubby insists that running will burn the most, but my joints just suck...I don't want to ruin what I have left of my right knee and ankle...[:/]

Think I'll go with some fast walking and exercycle, and if my knee gets better (doc said it could actually improve!) then I'll try some jogging.

I'm so far outta shape that walking will get my heart rate up sufficiently; I'm looking forward to more energy in the future! After I lost 20 lbs I could handle 4 jumps in a day...prior to that I thought I was just gonna die after 2 or 3...:P

IMO, low fat diet and exercise. I know that's cliche, but it worked for me. Dropped 50 pounds in about 6 months, and have kept it off (well, put about 10 back on in muscle, whatever).

If you want it bad enough, it's a piece of cake. The results will motivate you.

You wanna mess around with Weight Watchers or Atkins or Jenny Craig, or all that other BS (again, just my opinion), go ahead...but you don't need to spend a bunch of money on that stuff, just watch what ya eat, and exercise. Easy peasy.

I did Body for Life and lost a bunch of weight, but it was incredibly difficult. BFL is very hard to stick to. I then did Atkins (real Atkins, not what you hear on the news - read the book) and lost a bunch more. I lost a total of about 70 pounds over two years. I am now doing something that I will call a cross between South Beach and Atkins as a maintenance diet.

Awesome! (I am not too aware of Body For Life, just for the record). I am not saying that you can't lose weight with Atkins or whatever. It just seems like kinda taking the easy way out having to pay Jenny Craig to weigh you once a week to make sure you're staying away from the chocolate. I'd rather just do it myself, but that's just my nature.

That's really cool though that you've lost that weight and are working on keeping it off. Best of luck to ya.

I believe Newsweek has several great articles in their most recent issue re: Atkins, South Beach, etc., that are well researched and written. Definitely worth checking out. I'll see if I can find them online and figure out how to post 'em-- but in the meantime, might be worth the $2 investment next time you're out (or free at the library). It's the cover story, so you can't miss it... :)
Edit-- it's not the most recent edition-- :$more like January 19th. Couldn't get a link going for online, as only partial articles are available for free. I bet the library would still have it, though. (or your doctor's office);)

Start walking/running a mile every morning. Once you can run more then you walk, add a mile, keep adding a mile until you're running atleast 3 miles a morning. You'll shed pounds faster then anything else known to man.

Wanna know how I know? I lost 40lbs in just under 3 months when I was a fish in the Corps of Cadets due to all the running, pushups and such.

How about the 7-day Detox diet? Has anyone tried that? It is incredibly hard...but it's only 7 stinkin' days...then you just eat healthy. I lost 5 pounds in the first 3 days...then Joe brought home Krispie Kremes and I blew it...[:/] Inconsiderate bastage! (Oh wait, no actually I brought the Krispie Kremes home...Oops...:$)

So I'll try it again...what the hell, I've gone through some horrible sh&t in my life for weeks on end...how could 7-days kick me?!

Oh, and 'Detox Diet' is not what it sounds like, for those of you that don't know...it just focusses on pure whole foods and distilled water to cleanse your body of toxins and preservatives in today's pre-made foods. I don't have an alcohol problem...I swear! :)
