Vallerina 2 #1 February 6, 2004 Okay, so you've got your "Love Songs" thread for Valentine's Day, but we need a "Breakup Songs" thread for the same holiday! Valentine's Day is also for the lonely and bitter who keep the bars open on that day by drinking too much and bitching about exes with friends. So, what's your favorite breakup song? Mine: "Never Wanna F***in' See You Again" by Rich Hardesty Quote Well you're all upset about nothing Never wanna hurt you never wanna make you cry. Just keep the bullshit to yourself. You never wanna listen to what I said. You drove me nuts and got me out of my bed. When I didn't want to get up in the morning (for coffee!). Whatever happened to me and you is on page 672 and thats the end of the book so fuck you!!! Because I never wanna fucking see you again. You've always been a bitch , since I can remember when. You irritate my brain and you're driving me insane. No, I never wanna fucking see your ugly ass again. Tell me, why did you have to be such a bitch? I said you fucking bitch. You pissed me off and you jerked me off And when I was gone you jerked my best friend off. But I guess I can see how you are. You walked around with your pants zipped down Being friendly to every guy in the town. Just keep the bullshit to yourself. She had coooooties, in her gosh darn booooooty. She smoked all of my herb so I kicked her to the fucking curb. What's your favorite? There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning

winsor 236 #3 February 6, 2004 QuoteOkay, so you've got your "Love Songs" thread for Valentine's Day, but we need a "Breakup Songs" thread for the same holiday! What's your favorite? It's hard to beat Harry Nilsson at his bitter/witty best. I get the distinct impression that he had just gone through a gut-wrenching breakup when he put out "Son of Schmilsson" back in, oh, 1975 or so. Part of "Take 54" goes: "I sang my balls off for you baby, I wrote my fingers to the bone, I closed my eyes to hit the high notes, but when I woke up I was alone..." His "You're Breaking My Heart" is classic Nilsson as well: "You're breaking my heart, you're tearing it apart, so fuck you..." Of course you have Roy Orbision's "Thank God and Greyhound She's Gone." From a less humorous standpoint you have Buddy Holly's opus, best known for its cover by Linda Ronstadt, "It Doesn't Matter Anymore." The Police did a tune that was the outgrowth of Sting's very ugly divorce, which was anything but the love song many assumed it to be - "I'll Be Watching You." Jackson Browne's "Fountain of Sorrows" probably qualifies as a good breakup song, depending on the tone of the split. There are so many odes to failed love out there that it's hard to pick the best. I'd say it's situational. Blue skies, Winsor

AggieDave 6 #7 February 6, 2004 Nope, the BEST breakup song is "Dear John" by Hank Williams. That's Hank Williams Sr., its got a really cool steel guitar going...its just classic. QuoteDEAR JOHN Lyrics Well when I woke up this mornin', There was a note upon my door, Said don't make me no coffee Babe, 'cause I won't be back no more, And that's all she wrote, Dear John, I've sent your saddle home. Now Jonah got along in the belly of the whale, Daniel in the lion's den, But I know a guy that didn't try to get along, And he won't get a chance again, And that's all she wrote, Dear John, I've fetched your saddle home. Well she didn't forward no address, Nor she didn't say goodbye, All she said was if you get blue, Just hang your little head and cry, And that's all she wrote, Dear John, I've sent your saddle home. Now my gal's short and stubby, She's strong as she can be, But if that little old gal of mine, Ever get's a-hold of me, That's all she wrote, Dear John, I've sent your saddle home. Now Jonah got along in the belly of the whale, Daniel in the lion's den, But I know a man that didn't try to get along, And he won't get a chance again, And that's all she wrote, Dear John, I've fetched your saddle home. Now I went down to the bank this morning, The cashier said with a grin, I feel so sorry for you Hank, But your wife has done been in, And that's all she wrote, Dear John, I've sent your saddle home. edit for lyrics.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." goose491 0 #8 February 6, 2004 Don't think twice -Bob Dylan I love it for it's subtleties It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe If you don't know by now An' it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe It'll never do somehow When your rooster crows at the break of dawn Look out your window and I'll be gone You're the reason I'm trav'lin' on Don't think twice, it's all right It ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe That light I never knowed An' it ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe I'm on the dark side of the road Still I wish there was somethin' you would do or say To try and make me change my mind and stay We never did too much talkin' anyway So don't think twice, it's all right So it ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal Like you never done before It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal I can't hear you any more I'm a-thinkin' and a-wond'rin' walking down the road I once loved a woman, a child I'm told I give her my heart but she wanted my soul But don't think twice, it's all right So long, honey bee Where I'm bound, I can't tell But goodbye's too good a word, babe So I'll just say fare thee well I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind You could have done better but I don't mind You just kinda wasted my precious time But don't think twice, it's all right My Karma ran over my Dogma!!! diverdriver 5 #9 February 6, 2004 Joy Division (aka New Order after the suicide of front man Ian Curtis on the eve of their first USA tour) Love Will Tear Us Apart When routine bites hard, and ambitions are low And resentment rides high, but emotions won't grow And we're changing our ways, taking different roads Then love, love will tear us apart again -- Why is the bedroom so cold? You've turned away on your side Is my timing that flawed - our respect run so dry? Yet there's still this appeal that we've kept through our lives Love, love will tear us apart again -- You cry out in your sleep - all my failings expose There's a taste in my mouth, as desperation takes hold Just that something so good just can't function no more When love, love will tear us apart again -- Love, love will tear us apart again. dove 0 #10 February 6, 2004 Rest in Pieces by Saliva - Look at me, my depth perception must be off again Cause this hurts deeper than I thought it did It has not healed with time It just shot down my spine You look so beautiful tonight Remind me how you laid us down And gently smiled before you destroyed my life Would you find it in your heart To make this go away And let me rest in pieces Would you find it in your heart? To make this go away And let me rest in pieces Would you find it in your heart? To make it go away And let me rest in pieces Look at me, my depth perception must be off again You got much closer than I thought you did I'm in your reach You held me in your hands But could you find it in your heart? To make this go away And let me rest in pieces Would you find it in your heart? To make it go away And let me rest in pieces Fall in dove.

I. N. E. fine But your love made me a prisoner Yeah my heart's been doin' time You spent me up like money Then you hung me out to dry It was easy to keep all your lies in disguise Cause you had me deep in with the devil in your eyes Tell me what it takes to let you go Tell me how the pain's supposed to go Tell me how it is that you can sleep in the night Without thinking you lost everything that was good In your life to the toss of the dice Tell me what it takes to let you go Guitar! Tell me that you're happy that you're on your own, yeah, yeah, yeah Tell me that it's better when you're all alone Tell me that your body doesn't miss my touch Tell me that my lovin' didn't mean that much Tell me you ain't dyin' when you're cryin' for me Tell me what it takes to let you go, ooh Tell me how the pain's supposed to go, yeah Tell me how it is that you can sleep in the night Without thinking you lost everything that was good In your life to the toss of the dice Tell me who's to blame for thinking twice, no no no no Cause I don't wanna burn in paradise, ooh ooh I don't I don't I don't wanna I don't wanna burn in paradise Let it go let it go... (And I don't wanna burn and I don't wanna burn and I don't... )I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain

diverdriver 5 #15 February 6, 2004 Another Joy Divsion song Atmosphere gets pulled up after those break ups too. Walk in silence Don't walk away in silence See the danger - always danger Endless talking - life rebuilding Don't walk away Walk in silence Don't turn away in silence * Your confusion - my illusion Worn like a mask of self-hate Confronts and then dies Don't walk away People like you find it easy Naked to see - walking on air * Hunting by the rivers Through the streets, every corner Abandoned too soon * Set down with due care Don't walk away - in silence Don't walk away
