DaGimp 0 #26 February 2, 2004 ok...as others have stated...they were BASE jumps....hence the no sliders on the canopys...and PD canopys at that..so i was told.....i saw three maybe four jumpers..but very poor coverage....no freefall portions just canopys landing basically."Professor of Pimpology"~~~Bolas
CanuckInUSA 0 #27 February 2, 2004 QuoteCrap! I missed it! Anyone got video? I agree, there's not much to see. But I did record it on my VCR and it appeared that four people jumped (I knew one of them was going to be Jimmy as he told us a couple of weeks ago that he would be jumping. But I didn't know Marta was one of the others). The way Jimmy described it to us, they were supposed to pretend that they were Aerosmith (hence the reason my the band was wearing BR containers). But I guess the WX and the roof being closed had some influence. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
SkySlut 0 #28 February 2, 2004 Aerosmith actually said that they requested that the roof be closed. I didnt realize that was what they requested it for though...good stuff. Boston boys...at their best. Go Skydive Moab....

ltdiver 3 #30 February 2, 2004 From the BASE forum. Demo jumpers were: Marta, Jimmy, Tim, Jeb, and Anne. Damn good canopy piloting and landings! What must the air be like in a closed stadium like that?! With sound equipment and dancing performers included! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
quade 4 #31 February 2, 2004 For an -extremely- short time only. http://homepage.mac.com/pquade/iMovieTheater10.html BTW, I only counted 4 canopies, so it's possible that one of the people previously listed as a participant was either not shown on camera or was a safety/backup jumper.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Zeemax 0 #32 February 2, 2004 Is steve tiler wearing a BASE rig?? whats the deal with that? Awesome looking jumps though, total hats off respect for that. a shit load of skill needed Phoenix Fly - High performance wingsuits for skydiving and BASE Performance Designs - Simply brilliant canopies
ScubaSteve 0 #33 February 2, 2004 How did they get the canopy open so fast? Had to be very skilled..
PhreeZone 20 #34 February 2, 2004 Static line or PCA. Most likely Static line. Common on Base jumps. From the BASE video's I've watched.... that was a long canopy ride Very well done though!Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
jumperconway 0 #35 February 2, 2004 QuoteA helicopter fly-by for an enclosed stadium . . . uh . . . I guess it only looked silly on TV. I guess that was a smuch for the outside media and such. The flew right over me on the way home from Spaceland. They appeared to be flying in formation a big loop pattern because I was way south of Reliant Stadium. PhreeZone 20 #39 February 2, 2004 >I didn't realize PD was making 7-cells with tailpockets Sounds like a Lightning.... PD actually sews canopies for a lot of people. The Dragon was sewn by PD. Zennie 0 #40 February 2, 2004 QuoteWow, I didn't realize PD was making 7-cells with tailpockets and valved vents. lol Since Anne was in on the jumps, and given some stuff that I've since heard through the grapevine, they were probably Fliks. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
kallend 2,106 #41 February 2, 2004 QuoteNot to hijack this thread even more, but how about that National Anthem? If that don't bring a tear to your eye, I don't know what will. -Kramer The National Anthem sounds really fine the way it was written. No need to make it sound like a pop song. It would be far better sung by a local school choir.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
quade 4 #42 February 2, 2004 Quote Hell, I'd be stoked doing it for free. I hope you're just saying that to piss me off. There are times to jump for free and times to jump for the big bucks. This was big bucks jumping -- or it certainly should have been. 2.5 million dollars for a :30 commercial? Oh, I think they can afford a few more dollars for the only folks actually putting their lives as risk.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
CanuckInUSA 0 #43 February 2, 2004 QuoteOh, I think they can afford a few more dollars for the only folks actually putting their lives as risk. I never thought to ask him if they were going to get paid, but a couple of weekends ago when Jimmy was telling us about the jump he specifically mentioned that he hoped that nobody would mess up. I mean BASE already has a bad image with many people and it doesn't need another black eye. But that's why they only invited some qualified people to make that jump. ifics 0 #45 February 2, 2004 That should of had way more coverage, the announcers didn't even say a thing about it after Steve Tiler stopped singing. I was working through that and I remember thinking to myself if they were going to have a Demo jump... Glad they did...

quade 4 #50 February 2, 2004 Quote Well, it had to be BASE because demo jumps like that are forbiden right now due to the Nations current security level. No they aren't. http://uspa.org/news/index.htm#122203 Quote Major Demos Reinstated (01/10/04) With the national threat level returned to the same "code yellow" alert level as before the holidays, the TSA is once again issuing waivers for demo jumps into large stadiums hosting major events. Skydiving activity is again allowed under waiver within a three-mile radius of a stadium seating 30,000 or more people and hosting an NFL game, an NCAA Division 1 football game, or a major motor speedway event. Notam 3/1862 is the controlling Notam that requires a TSA waiver for skydiving in relation to certain stadium events: http://tfr.faa.gov/TFR/jsp/save_pages/detail_3_1862.html There -was- a TFR surrounding the Superbowl, but that can be gotten around if the organizers of the event put it in writting that the Demo is authorized by them. Further, you'd be absolutely amazed how fast the authorization from the TSA and FAA can come through if you have a very large media company doing the asking. Scary really.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
