vmsfreaky1 0 #77 February 3, 2004 You have proven you know nothing more about the israel/arab conflict than what is preached on your evening news, do some reading and you'll see who pulls the strings and writes the newscasts. The palestinians have never been offered anything remotely in the regioin of 99% of demands/requests. What kind fantasy are you living in?
vmsfreaky1 0 #78 February 3, 2004 QuoteI really question the intellect of anyone who actually things GWB, El Jefe Clintonista, or any other elected official would allow a terrorist attack to occur just for political gain. No, not just political gain, but total world domination.
Gress 0 #79 February 3, 2004 Quote(...) Who nominates anyway?? http://www.nobel.no/eng_com_nom.html QuoteThey were nominated by Jan Simonsen, an independent member of Norway's Parliament who says the pair got rid of a dictator and made the world safer. Jan Simonsen is an independent member of Norway's parliament, he got kicked out of one of the more right-wing parties, and is known for some rather extreme and untraditional views and opinions. Personally I wouldn't think too much of this nomination (or Hitlers ), as the commity seems to always pick good winners. Quote 1994: The prize was divided equally between: Arafat, Yasser, Palestine, 1929-. Chairman of the PLO; and Peres, Shimon, Israel, 1923-. Foreign minister of Israel; and Rabin, Yitzhak, Israel, 1922-1995. Prime minister of Israel. Awarded for their efforts to create peace in the Middle East. This prize was divided between several people, and was given in a time were there seemed to be some real progress in the peace process in the middle-east. The prize was given (not only) to Arafat, for something that was an obvious good thing for the middle-east (Oslo peace-treaty (sp?) among other things) and might have led to something if "other events" hadn't interfered. AdD 1 #80 February 3, 2004 One interesting thing about the origins of the palestinian-israeli conflict is that Gaza wasn't even ruled by the palestinians even before israel took possesion. They never made soveignty claims until israel took the land, which as I understand it was in response to being invaded.Life is ez On the dz Every jumper's dream 3 rigs and an airstream
TheAnvil 0 #81 February 3, 2004 That would have been Reagan...good move at the time period...a better move would have been for the US to have demanded Pahlavi cease his use Soviet style repression of political dissent or go without US support/$$, but going back in time to the Eisenhower era is impossible as of yet. Given the bipolar environs of the time and the 400 some odd days the Iranians, with whom Hussein was at war at the time, held our embassy personnel prisoner I think Reagan made a decent move. Hindsight is bliss.Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!
TheAnvil 0 #82 February 3, 2004 I live in reality and don't make unfounded claims such as the one you just made. Barak offered Terrorist in Chief Arafat a palestinian state with almost everything he'd asked for aside from the total elimination of the state of Israel. Given the fact that there has NEVER been a palestinian state, I find Mr. Barak's offer most generous. Arafat turned him down outright. With regards to Arafat being Terrorist in Chief, given his involvement in the Israeli Olympic Murders, the assassination of the US Charge d'Affairs and Ambassador to Sudan, his association with Al Aqsa Martyr's Brigade, Fatah, his televised call for jihad, the many serendipitous Hamas bombings that occur when he doesn't get his way in 'negotiations', and the hate rhetoric spewing out of Ramallah on any given evening, I really find it odd that anyone could question such a sobriquet. I find it appropriate. If you don't in light of the aforementioned, I suggest you tell me why you think such a title INAPPROPRIATE for Mr. Arafat. World domination? Gimme a break. That's so ludicrous it defies description.Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!!
SkydiverRick 0 #83 February 5, 2004 Tell me, what have you done for humanity? Chris Rather more than Bush, I'd guess. How about the short list? OK - here's a short list: 1. helped the US Navy develop bigger and better missile warheads in order to keep the peace. 2. Helped the DoE improve its nuclear warhead materials, thus helping to win the cold war. 3. Didn't send anyone off to war under false pretenses. I helped design components for SDI. Maybe we can carpool to pick up our awards. never pull low......unless you are
