Canopy Question

Recommended Posts

I've got 43 jumps now and I'm thinking of buying a rig sometime in the next month or two. I had a line-over on a Stiletto 190 today and had to cut away so the main thing that's on my mind right now is canopies that are forgiving of less than perfect pack jobs. I'm getting better, but I took my time with the packjob today and thought I did a decent job, which worries me. I've been doing my own packing since about jump 30.

I've heard that Spectres and 7-cells in general are a little more forgiving. I've jumped a Spectre 190 that I liked. Any thoughts?

If the line over was caused by the pack job you can do it on any canopy. Non elliptical canopies (not necessarily 7 versus 9 cells) are more forgiving WHEN you have a line over. In other word it won't be as exciting as you cut it away.

I had one customer pack two line overs in three jumps. I told them I was glad they had confidence in my reserve packs but to stop testing them!>:(;) I watched him pack and easily corrected the issue.

Canopies don't always open and don't always open right. Get used to it. The problem is you took you time.:P Any pack job can malfunction. If you choose to pack it like a base rig or reserve it may be a little more reliable. But not practical for you main.

You'll probably go another 1000 jumps without a malfunction.... or one.:) That's why you have two canopies.

well, you ARE notorious, a bit like i used to be and sometimes, admittedly, still am; doesnt change the fact tough!

and oh yea, my choices of canopies and what not probably still remain in the general forumsviewer eyes to be "questionable", but at least i dont try to be a dipshit EVERY time..

to the OP, for my 2nd rig i was able to get a stiletto 135, but then decided on a(n even smaller) semi-elliptical.. just for the sole reason, i've had like 10 linetwists on only my first or 2nd jump on that canopy, it flew and landed GREAT, it was TONS of fun to fly, but i didnt feel just ready yet to get a fully elliptical at the time.. that was around 250 jumps, but you might decide otherwise, and honestly, i couldnt care less, i'm just giving my opinion, and i'm everything else but a canopy-nazi.. ;)
