w4p2 0 #1 February 3, 2004 For roughly a month I have been faced with an irritating problem. There is a lunatic, that has stolen my real identity and is appearing in some international professional forums under my name. I know the name and e-mail address to this person and want to get his ass on big time. I have warned him via e-mail, I have contacted the forums with mixed results and I have even considered taking legal action. Rather than legal crap, I decided to get even, but only via e-mail. Any good ideas would be highly appreciated. Kind Regards: W4P2

w4p2 0 #4 February 3, 2004 Imposing on what? Problem with legal action is, that the crap appears in international forums and I think that the legal system has larger thinks to worry about. Not to mention the money involved. Cheers: w4p2

Nightingale 0 #6 February 3, 2004 Take Legal Action. don't mess with his email. Don't bug him on forums. Just call an attorney. If you start harassing him, it would give him additional leverage should you need to take him to court at a later date.
lawrocket 3 #7 February 3, 2004 Two things: First - identity theft is a federal crime. Msot states. I believe, also have criminal statutes against it. Talk to a police officer. File a report. Or, contact the FBI. Typically they like this stuff because it's easy to prove. Second - by stating your intention to get even, you have effectively pointed the finger at ANYTHING that happens to this person to yourself. Know the Commandments of Revenge, the Second Commandment being, "Thou shalt keep thy mouth shut!" Don't do anything but report to the authorities. My wife is hotter than your wife. w4p2 0 #8 February 3, 2004 Problem being that the case is not under US jurisdiction. It is probably not under that of my home country either, as the forums in question are international. Finally, the money and time required for legal actions outweight the potential results. Funny what a lunatic can do and cause... actually not funny at all.
