Michele 1 #76 January 19, 2004 Thanks for the info, WFFC. I've not been in that situation other than the EQ 10 years ago here w/ my mom, so wasn't sure, but trying to come up with ideas and ways we can get through this. (I say we because while I am not an instructor, nor did I lose any gear, Elsinore is home...and we are, after all, family...) Shark 0 #77 January 19, 2004 I should also note that other DZ staff lost gear in the fire. One that comes to mind is the Air Boss, Jason (Downwardspiral).
Michele 1 #78 January 19, 2004 Mark, Jason, whomever... There are lots of people who are willing to help out with gear and such. Can you pm me a list of stuff needed, or post it seperately? I know that there are people willing to help, they just don't know with what. So let's see if we can't get a list of things needed, not just school, but personal gear, too. Thanks, love. And I am hugging you all in my heart. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
rjf98 0 #79 January 19, 2004 Thanks so much for everyone's support on this. It just sucked last night being helpless. I truly can't believe the support that is comming in. Money, offers to loan gear and equipment, unreal... really. Rarely in my life have I seen it like this, and I'm humbled. Thank you to everyone, especially our students. lewmonst 0 #84 January 19, 2004 Thanks Michelle, for all your time and thoughtfulness. Right now we've had several people trying to match up gear needed with loaners. For the sake of consistency, let's allow Betsy to head up that. So whatever you know, send it her way. She is getting the complete list from all the instructors on what was lost, was is immediately needed and what gear is being loaned. She is here as it's her full-time job and she is on the phone with everyone. Right now she's still sorting out who needs what. Loaner sport rigs have been abundant. What we could still use loaners of is Tandem Rigs, Student Rigs, and Cameras (video TRV&PC style, still cameras-film for tandems...)... Please, if you have anything, e-mail Betsy: betsy@skydiveelsinore.com Like I said, she is still sorting out who needs what so we don't want everyone to fed-ex us everything right away... We'll sort out what we need and contact those who have offered. More good news... we've re-set up a temporary video room & packing/student room behind the bar, with a couple VCR's and one spare DVD recorder Lob had in his office. We used to have 7 video stations, 3 with DVD-r's to give you and idea of what we're working with. But there were 2 students up today, coach jumps. We had a student rig getting a repack in the rigging loft, so we were able to use it. Lob & Betsy are optimistic for being able to run the school like (almost) normal this weekend. We are all anxious to get going again! thankyou lewhttp://www.exitshot.com
RevJim 0 #85 January 19, 2004 Lew, I wish I had something to send that way to help out. You, Cajones, and all the rest are great people. As it stands though I really have nothing that you could use, and less than nothing when it comes down to actual cash. What I can send out that way is my prayers. You are all in them. diablopilot 2 #86 January 19, 2004 QuoteAnd we linin up all volunteer for help with lending gear and discounts on ordering new gear. I made a call to my old boss Ray Ferrell (SkyDance, FliteSuit) and he said he'd make a special deal offer to anyone affected, so if you need a jumpsuit he'll be in touch with the DZ shortly. In the mean time I hope someone can use the camera suit I sent over, and I'll drop a rig by in the morning. Keep lookin' up!---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

MakeItHappen 15 #90 January 19, 2004 Quote pics I want to say that those pictures - accurately show the damage, but they do not show you the context of the damage. One thing that struck me when I saw the damage in person were the rig hangers, cable housing and ripcord handles. The rig hangers are clearly visible in most of these photos. You'll notice that they are still attached up high at one end and dropped to the floor at the other end. The way my head saw that was a rig on each hanger bar. Rigs just disappear when they burn. Only the housing, ripcord handle and hardware is left behind as evidence of it's existence. Most of that fell to the floor. Only the bare hangers were left there. Not shown in those views was a ripcord handle hanging off a rig hanger bar. I doubt if that particular handle was in someone's rig. On the close side (to the road) all you could see were housings of rigs that looked like they were stacked on the floor. There was a tiny remenant of a parachute in one location. THere was a charred logbook that Hammo pulled out. There were shells of VCRS decks. THe U shaped lid sort of popped off the rest of the VCR. The guts were burned. Then there were the Corona bottles - brokened by heat at the label off in the corner of the staff area. That red & black jumpsuit in the 'fountian pic' - totalled. nothing left - it's all gone - just like that. Each rig hanger had a rig, plus accessory equipment, The staff had video equipment & dub stations - all gone just like that. Logbooks are the most heartfelt losses. You cannot replace those.. The pics will not show you what it's like to see that in person. The emotional strains I saw out there were great. The Elsinore folks need a bunch of friends right now.. ltdiver 3 #93 January 19, 2004 Jan, Thanks for all the work you did today at Elsinore. It sure -was- a shock when we drove up and saw the devastation first hand. I shot alot of pictures and burned a CD for Lob right there. Hope he can use them in the investigation. Here is one of the views you commented on. I'll have some of the other pictures up on my web page hopefully tomorrow. It's teamwork like this that got the word out so quickly this morning. There were calls coming in left and right all day long. People reaching out to help and filling Elsinore with hope again. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
patairborne 0 #94 January 19, 2004 As an Elsinore Staff videographer who lost everything, I would personally like to thank all of those out there in our "skydive community" who are pulling together resources to help out. A heartfelt thank you goes to each and everyone. This is indeed a tragedy which we will all come through, and hopefully will see a lesson in this somewhere down the road. As for now I think that most of us are still in disbelief that this has happened. But, once again thank you, thank you, thank you to all who are responding. The overwhelming response has been tremendous. And needed as we sort through insurances... This morning we were cleared to dig through the wreckage. I pryed our 10D out of the destroyed camera bag. It still resembles a 10D but is destroyed. The video tape of my accident in Rantoul was melted in that bag. (it's been a rough 6 months!) I did get a leatherman pocket knife out that was ok, a little black but worked. We we able to identify pieces of gear. Some of Ed's is attached. Early discussions about insurance are grim. very grim. Without giong into details yet, even those with homeowners insurance looking at the details of their policies are not finding good news. So we appreciate the paypal donations sincerely! Hammo's email this morning summed it all up pretty well. Thanks to everyone for your support. peace lewhttp://www.exitshot.com
