skybytch 273 #1 February 2, 2004 Can't sleep, clowns will eat me. This makes night #7 in a row that I'm up way past when I should already be sleeping - I got about 24 hours sleep total for nights 1 - 6 so I'm (somehow) running on a definite sleep deficit here. I've tried Tylenol PM (made me yawn and feel tired for an hour, turned the lights off and laid there for another hour, now two hours after taking it I'm wide awake again), relaxation techniques, killing kittens and drinking a glass of warm milk. Anybody got any (non-medication) tricks other than the above for getting much needed sleep when your body and brain aren't cooperating?
Paige 0 #2 February 2, 2004 a CD of ocean sounds or white noise. Try some of the cable music channels if you have them, usually some relaxing shit on there. Hope things work and you finally get some rest! Try to relax your mind and at least lay down. SkySlut 0 #4 February 2, 2004 I wouldnt take Tylonol Pm too much...it makes your legs feel funny and twitch when you are tyring to go to sleep because of a certain mineral or vitamin deficiency...it sucks...you cant sleep when you have been on that stuff for too long. I have found that when you go to sleep without anything on your mind and feeling good...I sleep like a brick. Sounds strange, but it works. It depends on where you are at and what you are doing. Once I have everything going for me sleep just happens. Have you been under stress???
jjiimmyyt 0 #5 February 2, 2004 Sigh, I wish i could help. It is nearly 5 AM here, got to be up soon, been nearly 3 months since I had a decent kip. "This isn't an iron lung, people. You can actually disconnect and not die." -Dave

racer42 0 #7 February 2, 2004 Regular exercise, less caffeine and watch your diet. Try reading or journaling. Writing has helped me out a lot in the past. If it last too much longer, maybe your physician has a short term solution. JeffD 0 #9 February 2, 2004 Might sound stupid but try this. (to relax) Start from your toes and squeze all your muscles in order to your eyebrows. For example curl your toes, flex your ankles, squeze your calves, your quads, and up. Also another thing is to put your hands together like your praying but only have your fingertips touching and push your hands together (building pressure up on your fingertips) and then drop your arms to your side and let the stress "fall off your fingers" its kinda corny but it works. Good luck.
flygirl03 0 #10 February 2, 2004 Melatonin. It is an herb. You can purchase it at Walgreens or any other drug store, I suppose. My daughter has had insomnia for months with headaches she's been having. Her neurologist recommended it. The first night she got drowse and fell asleep quickly but did not have a restful nights sleep. The second night she slept better than she has in the past 6 months. By the 4th night she was able to sleep without it. This evening she took one about 30 min before bedtime and when she went to bed she was out instantly. Give it a try. Another Herb that was recommend to me was Valerian. I bought that for her in case the other one didn't work, but she hasn't tried it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ earthbound misfit
skybytch 273 #11 February 2, 2004 QuoteYou could always move out of your situation!!! Certain decisions I've made over the past couple of months have made leaving part of the situation an impossibility. And I really don't want to bail out of it anyway; as far as that goes I'm an optimist, it'll get better, I just have to be patient (not my strong suit ). The biggest part of the problem... well, unfortunately I can't move out of my body and I can't get the problem fixed until I can get medical insurance - and even then it's still gonna suck... at least one of the discs in my neck is on it's way out. gary350 0 #12 February 2, 2004 Have you checked out melatonin? Natural hormone that your brain produces to regulate sleep. Very effective for many people - not only to get to sleep, but to get into lots of deep REM sleep. So much so that most people report a side effect of significantly greater and more vivid dreams. Too much for some people - they have nightmares. Folks also swear by it for jetlag. Buy anywhere over-the-counter, cheap. If you haven't tried it yet, worth at least reading about, if not trying. Good luck, sweet dreams. . .

skybytch 273 #15 February 2, 2004 QuoteTry having impending brain surgery hanging over ya. Speaking of which, is there anybody that can notify one of us so someone can post a status report after your surgery so we know everything is good? I'm going to be thinking about you on Wednesday. Tell the docs that they better not screw up cuz if anything goes wrong they'll have a very angry Bytch preparing to hunt them down and kill them. And they don't want that. gary350 0 #16 February 2, 2004 Besides melatonin, the other method I use is reading, preferably not something exciting like a murder mystery. Someone else I know uses books on tape to get to sleep. . . P.S. Thanks for the suggestion to Chris about getting someone to post updates for him after surgery - good idea. MarkM 0 #17 February 2, 2004 You're really not supposed to read in bed or watch tv in bed, because it trains your mind to do other things in bed other than sleep.
gary350 0 #18 February 2, 2004 Interesting. Off hand, it makes sense - maybe I'll have to read up on it. . . IN BED! Not.
skybytch 273 #19 February 2, 2004 QuoteCome on everyone, the obvious answer is great sex! Sex? What's that? Oh, you mean killing kittens with a partner! Sorry, it's been so long... While that has indeed worked for me in the past, it isn't gonna work for me tonight. No partner here and I ain't going out at this hour to pick one up. Well, I'm no doctor but you might try cutting all alcohol from your diet for a few weeks and see if that changes anything for you. It's just a thought. Muenkel 0 #21 February 2, 2004 ***Speaking of which, is there anybody that can notify one of us so someone can post a status report after your surgery so we know everything is good?*** Thanks for asking. Actually my brother is going to log on for me and let you know. However, the hospital is 100 miles away and most of my family plan to be there. So you may not hear until late Wednesday night, so don't be alarmed. Thanks, Chris _________________________________________ Chris

hooked 0 #24 February 2, 2004 The one drawback to taking Melatonin is, since it is naturally produced in your brain, if you start supplimenting, your body might stop making its own melatonin. At least that is what I was told. J -------------------------------------- Sometimes we're just being Humans.....But we're always Human Beings.
