Wuss.

jp with the 10 round mag limit, get the bigger bullet. a 9mm (.36 caliber) at full expansion is about where a .45 (11.4mm)starts. That's important when shooting people.

When shooting plates and targets and stuff, the bigger bullet is just better at knocking stuff over.

That Sig .357 (kind of a 9mm magnum) is quite a crowd pleaser too, but the muzzle blast off that thing at night is just horrible.

Depends on what your using it for. The 45 has a lot more stopping power but the 9mm is a faster flatter shooting bullet (depending on the load) which makes for more accurate target shooting for beginners. However alot of pro shooters use the 45acp. so its probably just a matter of preference. Just my .02

Both are good. However, for man stopping power I prefer the 45. 9mm is not good nor recommended for shooting through windshield glass from the inside of the vehicle as a good deal of the jacketing goes into the dash board and the vehicle occupants when it strikes the glass. It's cheaper to shoot 9mm if all you want to do is plink compared to 45 though. As far as price on a 45 goes it depends on make, model, and who you want it built by. you can totaly trick a 45 out into a race gun or you can get a straight off the shelf model in the $500 range, at least in my neck of the woods.

So if one were inclined to buy a 1911 type, what would be a recomendation and what should one expect to pay?

How much do you want to spend?

1911's are cool, Magnum P.I carried one and all, but the Glock is really a better carry pistol. I've put thousands and thousands of rounds downrange at advanced pistol courses, and my experience was that the Glocks could go all week without malfunction where everything else would start to go.

That said, if you get a 1911 type, the Para Ordnance pistols, unmodified, are very nice for the price. $600 or so and up.

Kimbers are even nicer, but my experience was that they were not at dependable as the Paras, but were very nicely made. $750 and up. Way up.

I have a Springfield "fully loaded" and it is an awesome pistol approx $825. Very little difference in it and the Wilson pistols that are about $2500

I also have a Colt 1991 government that you can pick up pretty cheap, but I about $300 in (beaver tail, trigger, hammer, etc..) and its up there with the Springfield.

Go to www.gunbroker.com you'll find a lot.

If you can still find one, the 14-45 used to come with a 14 rd high-cap and certificate for 2 more for cheap. Get the limited 14-45 for a little more than the base. Also, the hicaps fit in smaller 2x stack models, like Glocks.
