Best airport to fly into for Skydive Chicago? (Quick!)

Recommended Posts

I'd pick Midway since it's closer. Depending on who you want to fly. Southwest sucks but it is cheap. They go to Midway.....Ohaire is a big hub for United. Midway is sort of known as the "Ghetto" airport. :D They do have Potbellies. Great and fairly inexpensive sandwhich shop.

I thought you meant the pigs! I was thinking, hmmmm, maybe I'll fly into O'Hare . . . :D

Are potbelly pigs close to the same thing as sheep, Clay? Wanna pick me up at Midway? :D

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm on hold as far as ordering tickets goes . . . just can't make my mind up about a damn thing in this world. :P:D

I fly from Midway all the time and for going to SDC it is much closer and will avoid tons of traffic. Mid way does not suck, it's just smaller. I find landings are more fun there anyway ;). Southwest specifically has info about bringing a rig aboard the plane and allows it. They fly out of Midway.

Best of luck,
Heather

I would....but it's about a 6 1/2 drive. I would have to get up rather early.

Don't trust Clay to pick you up at the airport. I had to wait outside of ATL and sleep on a bench for an hour and a half while he woke up, then decided to come get me.

Closer is relative. You have to travel through some neighborhoods first before getting to the highway. Coming out of ORD you can probably cover the distance in equal time. I'd go with cheepest ticket.

Not much.

North on Cicero Avenue about 5 minutes takes you to I-55.

Midway is smaller, which means faster luggage pickup, faster trip to the parking lots, less traffic getting out, etc.

And, landing there is a thrill. You come in low enough over the neighborhood that you can read the signs in the window of the stores across the street.

Since I live no more that 4 blocks from the end of one of the runways at Midway Airport, I can tell you it is the quickest and usually cheapest airport to fly into.

From MDW airport, you have about 2 miles of road to drive to the expressway (nothing major about those neighborhoods, and you will fare better if you take Central instead of Cicero)- on a busy day that will take you about 15 minutes, 5 minutes on a good day. From MDW to SDC is 72.4 miles (give or take a few blocks and where you park :P). You can make that 72 miles in an hour outside of rush hour, and about 90 minutes in rush time (if there is a race at Route 66 racetrack, that backs everything up - but those are usually on Sat).

I used to work by Ohare and drive to the DZ....that trip is about 120-140 miles and will take at least 2 hours no matter what time you go.

Depending on where you are coming from, MDW is usually cheaper than ORD. The flights landing at ORD have more fees than the ones at MDW, and they just agreed to cut flights to help get rid of delays at ORD - a tactic that will raise prices even more for all flights into ORD. Go directly to Southwest.com ATA.com, etc...they do not use the major travel websites. Also, Heather and I have found that four trips booked online with SW gets you a free ticket, and it is five trips on ATA IIRC.

When are you headed up there?

Midway is in da Hood..... so be careful if you go there....
;)

HEY! I live there - Midway is not in the hood (gotta go a few blocks north than east for that)! I mean, there has only been one shooting on my street in the three years I lived there. It was so minor it didn't even make the news.

Right - Midway is "Bungalow Belt" white ethnic.

Pretty much - esp if you go west. Clearing and Garfield Ridge are mostly known to be Polish neighborhoods. Also, both have a large population of cops and firemen living there due to the proximity to the western border of the city limits (the closest they can get to the burbs).

Its probably cheaper to go in through Midway. But the commute is very simple and easy from the O'Hare area.
