Gravitymaster 0 #1 January 28, 2004 I've been browsing this site by one of our own DZ.Com photographers. Her work is really impressive. Check out all the Galleries. I could really use some advice from April to improve my own photography. www.Aprilslens.Com
aprilcat 0 #2 January 28, 2004 Gravitymaster, I'm glad that you like the site. If there is anything I can help you with, I'd be more than happy to. Unless it involves strapping a camera to my head, I don't go there. I'm working on 'American Male' (or the male image in America) and I'm going to be putting up some skydiving pics from that same time next week. I'd like to get some new skydiving pics this spring, so I'll be popping up at a DZ near you! Stay tuned and thanks for the kind words. Blue skies~~April Camelot II, the Electric Boogaloo! jmpnkramer 0 #3 January 28, 2004 I used to jump at Raeford awhile back. I went to the website but will have to check it out some more later as I am supposed to be working. Are you going to keep jumping? Laters, .The REAL KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMER! "HESITATION CAUSES DEATH!!!" aprilcat 0 #4 January 28, 2004 Am I going to keep jumping? YES! As soon as the snow melts and I find a Dive Master I'm comfortable with I'm going where the sun shines and the loads are HOT to train AFF. First I plan on dragging a few more virgins into the sport. I organized a trip to Raeford for a group to hang out and do tandems, and I got 9 people from all over the East coast to meet me there. All but 3 wanted to jump, and by the end, all but 2 did. Maybe I can make a life from that if I can get comped jumps and/or training? April's Tandem Tours Blue skies and bandaids...April Camelot II, the Electric Boogaloo! Gravitymaster 0 #5 January 28, 2004 Good luck dragging those virgins. Thats a typical goal for someone getting into the sport. I think most here who have been jumping for a while will tell you how all their friends wanted to make a skydive but some how always found reasons they couldn't go. I know I've had at least 30 people tell me they always wanted to make a skydive but when you try to make arrangements for them, they always find a reason they can't make it. On another note, I have thought about doing a black and white film study of skydiving, but it's such a colorful sport, I wasn't sure whether I'd be wasting my time. You black and white galleries has got me thinking about it again. Not sure the actual freefall would work but maybe one concentrating on the people. Your thoughts? aprilcat 0 #6 January 28, 2004 I got yelled (actually, I was called a 'freak who jumps out of airplanes) for doing the study I did, and was told it wouldn't work unless I found another 'way' of doing it. So I got closer to the sport and got in the planes and down in the dirt and took pictures up close. Using black and white film the sky is intimidating if you can get any definition at all. There's two ways to fix this--filters or darkroom access to burn in the sky. If you are going to take pictures in flight, I suggest filters. I took pics of jumpers going out the door, and was chastised that because of lack in definition I could have been in a hangar and had friends suit up and jump through a door. Stupid wuffos. NO one is going to suit up to jump in a hangar. If you want 'mood'...you'll have to push the film. The light from the door and windows need fill and you cannot balance with a flash (safety issues, don't even GO there unless you want your camera to become part of your anatomy). I am not sure what you will get if you take film 'in air'...you'd have to get very close to the jumpers and not pay too much attention to the sky. Try it with a nice yellow or red filter for starts and see how it works. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. For cheap film go to wwww.bhphotovideo.com. I can't live without this place. Happy shooting~~April Camelot II, the Electric Boogaloo!
aprilcat 0 #7 January 28, 2004 P.S. There is a guy in Raeford who flew with yellow and black wings..he took video laying flat on his back and shooting up...I got some good video from him, and Stills may look great in a freefall using black and white film and a zoom lens would work there. aprilcat 0 #9 January 28, 2004 Addendum: For photos to be taken. All the jumpers I know have too much ego for that. Hmmmm...there may be a market for that too, get a bunch of Wuffos suited up, have them jump in a hangar..give them a plaque that says 'Hardass' and let them dream.... Big thick foam mat (like in a pole vault competition) under the Otter door, and we all piled out on cue.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one. You know those booths at the County Fair where you stick your head thru a hole and it makes you look like a cowboy or a clown? You could do something like that for whuffos who are to afraid to skydive. LOL The backdrop would look like the inside of the plane with them standing in the door in a jumpsuit. aprilcat 0 #12 January 28, 2004 I've been laughing about that since last night and that was an idea..the bolder ones could jump from a mock-Door. Anyway I put some more (smaller) skydiving prints up. More people. If you've been to Raeford you'll see some familiar faces... www.aprilsLens.com Camelot II, the Electric Boogaloo!

racer42 0 #14 January 28, 2004 Very nice images. Some of those look like platinum prints. I take it you use a large format camera?? If you ask me "photographs" occur only in black and white chemical emulsions. aprilcat 0 #15 January 28, 2004 Thats a nice thing to say, Racer, that they look large format! I use 35mm cameras...PentaxK1000 (the workhorse), Olympus02, and NikkonFE. GravityMaster, I meant to put it in an earlier post, but the film I always use is Kodak TRX400...its more versatile and I get some great action when I need it. I usually pull the camera ISO back to 200, and I can get a nice push when I need it. I'm glad you are enjoying the photos....makes me want to get back at it. ~~April Camelot II, the Electric Boogaloo!
