SpeedRacer 1 #27 January 27, 2004 hmmm. those Africans were not stolen by European/Americans. they were bought from other, neigboring African nations. Many enslaved Africans were POWs who were sold by their enemies. During the 18th century the Ashante empire doubled in size & became wealthy by selling slaves to Colonial America, Europe, and the Arabs. The Ashante empire was in Ghana. Since they got all that profit, maybe we should make them pay it back. oh wait, no that would be kinda ridiculous at this point wouldn't it. Ian84 0 #28 January 27, 2004 To sue in order to gain financially from the suffering of your ancestors is almost as bad an example of exploitation as the slavery its self. Terrible
freeryde13 0 #29 January 27, 2004 i agree that slavery was a terible part of are past and that reperations are not the way to heal the wound. and in a way is a bit ludicris because every american suffered somewhere because thats why they came here. but what is more rediculous is that the jews got their reperations for a fraction the amount of enslavement. so we just live in a bizare world._________________________________________ people see me as a challenge to their balance
LoudDan 0 #30 January 27, 2004 Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the American Indian. If we are going to pay out to any one (unless of course its me) it should be the American Indian. Talk about people who got fucked. I'm not a native american, (I'm actually mostly Irish) but if we are going to be fair about this bullshit..... Coming soon to a bowl of Wheaties near you!! The way I see it, the Brits owe me and so does the United States Army. I want my lands back! TheAnvil 0 #32 January 27, 2004 I am not following you dude. Some of the companies these jackasses tried to name in the suit weren't even formed until well AFTER slavery was legal. CSX is one of them, I believe. I don't see how such a suit is not frivolous in nature. To be honest I've never read the rule in its entirety, I just know it deals with frivolous lawsuits in general.Vinny the Anvil Post Traumatic Didn't Make The Lakers Syndrome is REAL JACKASS POWER!!!!!! In all honesty, I didn't think it was right then, and I don't think it's right now. My ancestors suffered, not me.~Jaye Do not believe that possibly you can escape the reward of your action. As I've said on this forum before, it's just Jesse Jackson's racial shakedown tactics writ large - "Give us what we want (lots of money), or we'll burn your cities down." mh"The mouse does not know life until it is in the mouth of the cat." WrongWay 0 #45 January 27, 2004 WARNING.....this WILL be a rant....if you are offended by it, please don't attack me....I will try to stay calm but I shall get my point across in a way that I'm sure will be taken as a rant....you have been warned. THIS KIND OF PEOPLE ARE DERANGED. I am not racist, sexist, homophobic, and IMHO I try not to be judgemental in any way, shape or form. But the worst racists in the world are the ones who push the fact that they themselves are minorities, and use this information to justify their own racism, and get something out of it at the same time. These people simply make me sick, the people preaching hate to others, saying "The white man took this, the white man did that". Sure, slavery was a horrible thing, as was discrimination. But times have changed, that was all over 100 years ago. For God's sake, were these freaks even there??? Hell no they weren't. They're just living in the past, playing it off like they are victims to make a buck, and in doing so, spreading the hate and racism they claim to be against. To these people, GET OVER IT, YOU WEREN'T EVEN BORN YET. It's people like them that are the very reason racism is still in existence today. Personally, if someone came up to me and tried to tell me I was the reason "their people" were enslaved for so long because I'm white, I'd tell them to fuck off and blame someone else. I wasn't born yet. Thank you for hearing my rant. Wrong Way D #27371 Mal Manera Rodriguez Cajun Chicken Ø Hellfish #451 The wiser wolf prevails. JohnRich 4 #48 January 27, 2004 My great-great grandfather joined the Union Army at age 17, and fought to free the slaves. He was shot and injured at Chancellorsville, healed, returned to his unit, and then lost his leg in another battle in Florida. There he was captured, and he survived two years in the notorious Andersonville POW camp. He returned to Ohio after the war, on one leg. I think African-American's owe me reparations, as his descendant, for the extreme suffering he incurred fighting to set them free. Photo of Gottlieb Affolter is attached. RyanofOZ 0 #50 January 27, 2004 Glad the issue was tossed. The people that started that lawsuit need to get off their asses and work. Also they need to look to the future and not dwell on something from hundreds of years ago. Give it a f-ing break already. Besides, it was legal when it happened. Not that it was right, but legal just the samewOz
