Who will you vote for President? Why?

Recommended Posts

Go to any of the major TV company web pages and you will see who owns them and it is the people on the left. I'm in school finishing up my last quarter and my thesis. I barely have time to post and argue over stupid shit like this. Do research and you will find the answers no one wants to admit to.

Would you find time for insiginificant sources that others could find on their own if you had two midterms due on Wed., 5 hours of work before then, normal school duties, on top of being the president of the skydiving club, and participating in a pre-law professional fraternity?

Quade - I watched a debate the other day where Clark pulled rank on Kerry.

Ya know, I watched the exact same debate and I didn't seen him puiling rank on Kerry at all. Much like the Dean pep-rally speech after Iowa, most of these reactions are the invention of the media covering the event.

Seriously, go back and look at the Dean "rant". To me, it doesn't look like a rant at all, it looks like a pep-rally where he was trying to whip up a little excitement -- which in fact is exactly what it was.

Clark talking about his military experience is not "pulling rank". It was him responding to a question as honestly as he knew how.

The fact is, the campaign is about as boring as it gets and the press will jump on the smallest of slips and blow it up as large as they can so that they have something to talk about.

Listen to the candidates, not the press over analysis.

"In 2000, I was riding the fence and ended up voting for Bush because of Gore's demeanor during the debates. Admittedly not the best of reasons. I wish I had looked closer now. Bush has not lived up to his promises in 2000 - most significantly, trying to build international concensus and being a more humble nation in international affairs. I'm also very concerned about the huge deficit he has created from the surplus he was left."

Welcome to the world and word of the politician. I've yet to see ANY politician live up to the promises that he/she made during his/her election campaine. As my father told me, many, many years ago, "son, there is no such thing as an honest politician. Using the words honest and politician together is an oximoron!" While true, Bush has not lived up to quite a few of the promises that he made, neither will any or the present Dems that are attempting to gain they're party's nomination, the only promise that any of them will make and keep is that they will raise taxes to a higher level that ever seen before! Raising taxes, and causing overly excessive burdens of tax on the people of this nation is the only thing that dems know how to do, even then, part of the time they will lie and say that they are not going to raise taxes, but when given the oppertunity, considering the raising of taxes, to them, only the sky is the limit! ALL politicians lie, some allot more than others, but all lie, NONE keep the promises that they make!

Unfortunately, lower taxes and no cut in spending leads to more debt. Like right now, the national debt is rising by $2.0 Billion per DAY, and is at an all time record of $7.019 Trillion, and the value of the $US continues to plummet against other currencies.

It's easy to feel prosperous when you borrow borrow borrow and make no plans to pay back.

You made a statement that you now refuse to justify because you are "too busy" (although obviously not to busy to continue to post to the forum).

I'll say it again: you can't prove it because you're wrong.

Check your source! That's the only advice I have. If you take what you read at face value, you are making the same misteak I am accused of!

Everything comes from a source. Academic research - such as the paper you are criticising - cites it's sources so as to make a scientific case.

You've failed to make a similar case to prove your point, or to provide alternative research that cites sources in an equally comprehensive manner. Why is that? Perhaps you are just too busy.

I see from your profile (if it is current) that you are an ex-Marine but are currently looking for work. I am really sorry to hear that but it points up a big problem in Bush's economic program of big governement spending coupled with tax benefits to the ultra rich. While Bush reported in his State of the Union speech that the economy is "growing" that has not translated into jobs for American workers. In fact, the economy has lost about 2.3 million jobs since he took office, giving him the worst job creation record of any president since Herbert Hoover. Are you better off than you were in 2000?

No, I am a Marine in retirement, there is no such thing as an ex-Marine, yes, unfortunately the profile is current.. As for the job situation, economy, it wouldn't matter who was in office, it would be the same. As to the surplus, there was no surplus, it was all smoke and mirrors, The debt has always been there, Clinton pulled a ruse on people trying to make it look like there was a surplus, it was all a lie, smoke and mirrors, had Gore won, (God forbid) he would have inherited the same mess that Bush received, 9/11 would have still happened, (under Gore, we would not have responded) and the economy would still be in the dumper! Thanks for the "really sorry to hear that" about my jobs, or lack of, situation. Hopefully, it will get better, but I doubt it. All the jobs have been sent outside of the country, there is nothing for the people of this country to do, no jobs, no one is hiring, and sadly, that will likely continue for a long, long time.

Impossible to know. To say otherwise is PURE speculation based on nothing.

It's possible that Gore would have dealt with the situation before September 11. It's posible the only reason they attacked is because GWB was in office. It's possible Gore would have retaliated against OBL and not been distracted to Iraq.

According to the collection of present and former administration officials and media pundits convened for the occasion, both Bush and Gore would be far more aggressive enforcers of US power abroad than President Clinton. Reagan administration veteran Robert Kagan called Bush "an average guy" who sees the world in terms of "good guys/bad guys [and] democracy/tyranny. And that's a simpler world." The separate Gore discussion assessed the Democratic candidate as a hawk in the Clinton White House. As Doyle McManus of the Los Angeles Times was quick to point out, Gore has the track record to prove it. "[Gore] has been readier to consider and support military intervention, from Grenada in 1983, which was not the universal consensus among Democrats, to the Gulf War, to Bosnia in 1993. He is not a prisoner of the Vietnam syndrome."

Gore has assembled a 25-person advisory group on foreign affairs, most of whom are veterans of the early Clinton administration. During his tenure under President Clinton, Gore occasionally turned for foreign policy advice to Sandy Berger, the White House national security adviser and Richard Holbrooke, the United Nations ambassador, whom many consider the leading candidate for secretary of state in a Gore administration.

But at present, only one man, Leon Fuerth, seems to exert real influence on Gore's decisions. Fuerth, a one-time foreign service officer and current Cabinet-level foreign policy adviser, prides himself on being a master of discretion. He has described his proper comportment as "nameless, faceless and odorless," since his ideas "belong to the vice president." Fuerth is expected to be national security director if Gore is elected president, and the two men enjoy an unusually close relationship

Known for his gruffness, Fuerth has earned in State Department circles the nickname "Darth Vader."

Over the years, Fuerth has consistently encouraged Gore in taking aggressive stands on foreign policy. Fuerth's toughest positions have been with Iraq, Iran and North Korea, places he has privately described as "giant zits on various parts of the body." Fuerth remains firmly unmoved by Iran's attempts at reform,

Fuerth's outlook on Iraq differs little from that of Bush's advisers. In a recent interview billed as a "gentlemanly discussion," Fuerth clashed on Iraq with Bush adviser Robert Zoellick, former assistant Secretary of State. Their real disagreement, however, was not over whether to use force, but over whose fault -- President Clinton's or President Bush's -- it was that Saddam Hussein was not already dead. The route of diplomacy was not discussed, nor was the option of rigorous military sanctions and enhanced border inspections. Nor did either man mention lifting the economic sanctions that by UNICEF estimates are killing 250 Iraqi civilians a day. Whereas Zoellick has joined his fellow Vulcans in advocating the seizure of Iraqi territory using US air and/or ground forces, Fuerth remains more coy. "Ultimately Saddam Hussein is going to make a mistake that plays into our hands…[T]hat mistake will confer on us the legitimate right to deal with him," remarked Fuerth, adding that such a US response may or may not be coordinated with the Iraqi opposition.

Sorry about the ex-Marine characterization. I was not meaning to be disrespectful. As to exporting jobs, I take it you do disagree with Bush's illegal alien amnesty program. I not only disagree with it but think it shows his lack of concern for American workers and fawning to corporations and the Hispanic vote.

"Sorry about the ex-Marine characterization. I was not meaning to be disrespectful"

No disrespect there at all, no offense intended and none taken. No harm done, I know you were not being disrespectful. The largest majority of people do not know that the term ex-Marine is invalid. A good story, and one that true about this. I read it a couple of years ago. It was from a lady who's father had been a Marine in World War II. He was in the hospital, in a coma, and was not expected to live. She had gone up to see him, and had overheard the nurses talking about her father. The nurse had been in the room earlier, with another nurse and they were talking about the patient. She had made a statement, "I understand that he was an ex-Marine. She said that he opened his eyes, sat up in the bed, looked her directly in the eye and said, "Lady, I am a Former Marine, there is no such thing as an ex-Marine!" And with that, she said, that he lay back down, closed his eyes and dropped back off into the coma.

That story was in "Leatherneck" Magazine, in the Letters to the Editor section.
