please critique this picture of a squirrel i took

you got the framing but I would have gotten lower if it wouldn't have scared the little guy away. And you don't always have to get the entire animal in the picture. You can focus on the head, hands and still get a very interesting shot. If you have the time always shoot from multiple angles and try and find something unique. :)
oh ya always try to get the sun at your back, it produces much better colors, unless your going for like a backlit bushy squirrel tail or something. :)

thanks! Yeah i was just so stoked how close he was i didn't even think to get lower down. It was hard, they were pretty tame, but sudden movements were making them edgy so i had to move slowly. Coupled with a huge bag of nuts and a coffee in my other hand/arm, it made it pretty hard to stay steady so i just fired away!
I would like to be able to focus more on the head/tail stuff like that, but the cam only has x3 zoom (its a little Olympus Mju 400 http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B000087QQ6.02.MZZZZZZZ., so i can't get too specific over what shot i can frame up close - well not on animals anyways as they tend to bolt when i get close. I was probably about 2-3ft from him or so.
Yeah i like the idea to shoot from multiple angles - i'll do that more, and keping the sun ibehind me - good ideas thanks:)

whoa i like those. You get a good idea of his size in the 1st one, and a nice close up of him eating (what is that, a fry?) in the second one.

I love chipmunks too man, how did you know? Nothing beats chipmunks and squirrels.

That's the problem, people are feeding wild animals people food. Ugh.......I worked as a Ranger at one time in my life, and it makes me so mad to see people feeding wild animals. They are wild, and the humans that are feeding them are hurting the animals in the long run. Those animals have forgot how to hunt, and some have never learned how to hunt. That's why you'll see more and more National Parks give out tickets if you get catch feeding the animals.
Hey, when's someone going to get a picture of themselves feeding a wild bear:D
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread [:/]

Since you asked for a critique, I assume you're open to comments about the mechanics of the shot. I would suggst that you open up your aperture more so that the background is less in focus.

can i do that on my digital camera? I posted the model earlier, but i have no idea if that's possible! Please let me know if you think it is, thanks!

flyangel, should i not feed the squirrels then? I looked at it as the same thing as leaving out nuts for the birds in the winter, but correct me if i'm wrong. If it's not a good idea to feed em let me know!
Thanks
