I can't believe that you can attatch a cable to the recovery hook under the car (assuming they did, it looked like they did) and cause that much damage to a car.

It looked like to me that they attached the cable AROUND the bumper attachment to frame. That's why during one of the pulls, you can see the bumper plastic give way. Those bumpers are good for 5-10MPH hits, but I don't think they were made to tow with.

ah, gotcha.

I know most cars (the little ones anyway) have a retrieval hook on the underside in the rear and I figured they may have been using that. I'd think something like that would be designed to handle the stress involved with pulling the car out of a tight spot.

of course, among the other things they were doing wrong, they were jerking at it, so that may have been their undoing.
