Of course, they are both pilots, and apparently believe it is OK to do aerobatics (during which FAR requires you to ear a parachute) even theough my one boss spent 10 months in the hospital after a crash. I jam at work, but it's been more of an effort for the past few weeks. I'd much rather have real jumps on the weekends than DZ.com all week long... slug 1 #35 January 16, 2004 lets look at the advantages and disadvantges of letting your boss/coworkers know what you do on your own time. some people will think your "cool" because your a skydiver and it's somethng they aslways wanted to do. Some people will think your useing poor judgement, and have a high probability of getting hurt. Or because your having so much fun on the weekends your work is less than 110% during the week. If your in the middle of a big project or have a key position in the company (making the boss look good) and you have a accident then the boss is going to have to hustle & project/schedule will suffer. I found that the less people at know about your private life the better off you are. Boss asks What you doing this weekend? Luckily, they didn't look at it as a self-destructive attitude, they looked at it as I was quick responding in emergency situations, attentive to detail, and an empowered woman. They are still freaked about the whole thing. It was pretty funny, at the end of my first interview, my now supervisor says...." on a side note, I have always wanted to go skydiving!! my husband thinks it's crazy...etc. " She asked me a ton of questions and was totally intrigued. Everyone was very supportive. . .and they couldn't wait to see my video and look at the pictures. . .now every Friday and every Monday they ask me whether I am jumping and want details about the jumps I do make. . .they are a wonderful group of people. . . That being said, I will say that during December my work did suffer quite a bit. I was so distracted by wanting to get "out there" and finish AFF. . .I was PW'ing all day at work and was basically very unproductive. LoudDan 0 #41 January 16, 2004 One cool thing is that most of the DZ's around my area offer discounts on Wednesdays, and when I inquired about sick days with the HR folks, I found that 80% of our sick days in the company happen on Monday and Friday. Wednesday events don't happen often enough for them to take notice only about 5%. So calling in sick on a Wednesday is no biggie, but the lead up for the sick day is on the dramatic side. When the bad part happens you have to remind your self that this person is more then just your boss and when the good thing happens you have to do the same. It is very hard.
