I just talked to our new health insurance provider this morning. We were talking about rates, and he said with some companies it's actually better to admit you're an occasional drug user than a drinker!

Makes sense. Who's more likely to cuase a serious accident - the occasional stoner at home who don't want to move, or someone totally wasted after 10 pints drving off down the road ..

To true. The fact is, Canada is seriously looking to decriminalise. They actually did it a few months ago and it was absolutely legal to carry up to 15 grams (anything over that was subject to fines at the Officers discretion). The courts are sick and tired of seeing kids lives ruined and police time wasted. The act to decriminalise was reversed however for two reasons.

1) They had no system in place for regulation i.e. You can't toke and drive, but we have no official laws/repercussions or a way to test a driver for pot on the road.

2) We were threatenned that boarder-crossings between us and the U.S.A would be made more difficult and that trade agreements between the two would be altered.

I'm pretty sure, however, that we will get our legal pot back and soon :)
I work in Insurance (auto and home mainly) and grow-houses are a big prob for us. We are told that in Ontario Subburbs, if you take a circle about 10 miles in diameter, you will find 4 grow houses.

Anyone see or read about the Molson Brewery op?

Ya, damn government reversed it with like a tenth of the publicity. Why didn't they think of the implications before passing the law in the first place? I thought it was a good idea, nobody with a few grams deserves a criminal record.

Yeah,

I live right around the corner from that old Molson's Plant. They located the grow facility inside one of the old storage vats. Incredible. It was in business for a year and no one knew about it even thogh the plant had been subletted to several other businesses.

My suspicion is that they made the reversal less public so that they could nail a few grow ops that decided to get a little sloppy when it was decriminalised.

Well they did... But were running out of time. The thing, it was to be Jean Chretiens legacy to legalise Marijuiana and as his term came near it's end, he pushed real hard for it. Even though no other new laws were passed on the subject. In fact, When it was decided that there could be certain fines for having too much (over 15 grams) or for smoking in certain public places, he had said something to the effect of "Well then I'll be walking down the street with my fine in one hand, and a joint in the other."

I assume he knew it would be quickly be reversed but at least by giving the population a true taste of the decriminalisation, he would be assured that the whole thing wouldn't just be 'dropped' once he was out of office.

From that article:

While Colombia has become notorious for supplying cocaine to the U.S., Canada is in danger of developing a reputation of being cast as the primary source of high-grade marijuana, Collins added

"Is in danger of developing" ? We already DO have a nice rep.

BCs pot is world-renound. They are the second largest exporter of the stuff. Ontario becoming the number one source? How nice, how proud I am.... [tear]

Jean Chretiens legacy to legalise Marijuiana

There has NEVER been talk about "legalising" marijuana ... "decriminaling" is what Canada is working toward... but the big bully next door, Uncle Sam, and his uninformed "war on drugs" is threatening Canada, despite our government being elected by the people to represent the wishes of the people.

BC bud -- better than that "stuff" from Ontario, sells for $5000/kilo in LA ... and is WAYYYYY better that the outdoor-grown crap that comes across the border from Mexico. In fact, BC Bud is the best pot on the planet!

Since the USA terror alert was lowered the other week, about 400 kilos of BC Bud have been seized in the waterss of Washington State west of Port Angeles as runners try to smuggle it across the border in small boats (in traditional Canadian fishion, some of the pot was found in hockey bags!) for transport south to LA ... the good news is -- just imagine how much HASN'T been seized!!!

You are a funny country, USA. You let your citizens run around city streets armed with handguns, ready to kill anyone who makes the wrong move, yet you're set to impose sanctions on your best friend and neighbour for allowing democracy to work the way is is supaosed to -- with the people telling the government how to run the country.

Two groups will be affected by decriminalizing marijuana.
Small-time users will avoid the whole stigma and expense of jail time.
On the other hand, decriminalizing marijuana will take the p[rofit margin out of major grow operations. Without hefty profit margins, organized crime groups will have to find another scam.
Grow Ops in BC are dominated by criminal gangs and arresting them requires so much police time that they have no energy remaining to chase rapists, murderers and child molesters, etc.
For example, I am really tired of listening to the RCMP's sensor-laden TURBINE Cessna 210 droning in circles over town searching for grow ops. The money would be far wiser spent chasing child molesters.
