BPA membership cost

According to the BPA web site, our membership is going to be over 100 quid in april. All cos the insurance cost has gone to over 55 quid. :SB|:|

Not good at all is it.

What really hacks me off about it all is that most of the big claims that are going through atm are related to demos. The vast majority of the membership don’t do demos and yet we all pay the same insurance. I would like to see the BPA take a long hard look at it and possibly separate out the demo aspect of the insurance so that those who do demos buy separate insurance, and those of us who don’t do them don’t have to pay through the nose to cover those that do.

Since a good proportion of demos are “paid for” anyway, I can simply see the extra insurance being added to the cost of the demo and so not being paid for by the individual demo jumper.

There is a danger that if this trend continues, BPA membership will become prohibitively high and people will simply start jumping abroad using other (i.e. Spanish or USPA) insurance and avoid jumping in the UK altogether. This would not be in the best interests of UK skydiving!

That's fu*king horseshit, the BPA just put up the dues last year, and now it's going up over £30 more, Fu*kers....

I’m thinking that the vote on membership fees at the AGM could get interesting this year…

Thinking about it what it will mean isd I won't be jumping in the UK this year. I usually keep it to a minium anyway, but i have my USPA license so i'lll use that to go jump abroad and for the summer here i'll just get a 3month temp. membership to tie me over, should I wish to jump.

Don't quote me on this, but I have a feeling that they won't let you do that if you're a British citizen. And besides, I'm pretty sure temporary membership is only valid for a month. Sucks, huh?! [:/]

Guess I won'tr be jumping here this year then....hopes the $ stays like it is, will be able to get some good jumps in. Sweden is just around the corner and with flights so cheap, what i would spend on petrol saty over a few weekends and could spend on a flight for a long weekend and probarbly get more jumps in anyway.

OK – here we go - from the BPA’s form 104 – Temp Membership:

“This temporary Membership is for non BPA members, i.e. Jumpers from non U.K. countries wishing to temporarily jump at BPA Affiliated Clubs or Centres, or for those only wishing to join the BPA for a short period of time.”

Apparently it covers “Unlimited Jumping for one month”

So it seems if you only want to jump in the UK for one month, then this is an option.

Just checked the USPA web-site. Only $60 (roughly £40) for foreign USPA membership.

My flight to Eloy cost me £320, jumps were $15,50 (roughly £9). So I could fly to Eloy for a week and do fifty jumps paying about £810 (£450 for jump tickets, £320 for flight and £40 for USPA membership). Or I could do fifty jumps in the UK (weather permitting) for £950 (£850 for jump tickets and £100 for BPA membership).

Hmmm, and of course if I went to Eloy for two weeks at a time the cheap jumps would even further off-set the cost of the flight. And of course there is the petrol money that driving to the DZ sets me back (over £100 per month during the summer).

I'm with Satan - looks like Sweden or the states is the way to go. Will be interesting to see how the BPA attempts to keep their numbers up once enough skydivers start doing the maths. ;)

I'll still keep jumping in the UK but don't think I will be renewing my BPA membership. :)

Damn, and I thought the USPA's dues were bad!

Yeah - But don't they also get medical with this?

What would that run the USPA?
I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama
