swoopgaz 0 #26 December 26, 2010 Gday Mate, Do your AFF, learn how to skydive properly, enjoy skydiving and use skydiving gear. Hang out at the DZ and talk to the other jumpers. You'll get alot more useful info about gear etc from doing that than in an internet forum. There are plenty of base jumpers at DZ in OZ so talk to them about base and base equipment. Don't be in a rush to get into BASE. Find yourself a mentor who will be a never ending resource on things like what gear to purchase etc for a first BAse rig. Than when your ready to jump of your first object, by all means do a hop n pop on the base canopy to see how it handles, then use it for base jumping. If you spend enough time under a skydiving canopy, really learning how to fly it a BASE canopy will be easy. But like i said talk to people at the DZ and don't be in a rush. Base jumping will still be there in 5 years time etc.
phoenixlpr 0 #27 December 26, 2010 AFAIK only harness and reserve canopy should be TSOd.
Hellis 0 #28 December 26, 2010 Thats what i thought too. But the main canopy can, by local rules, not be legal to jump. At least here we have a list of main canopies that is legal to jump. In this list some (or perhaps all) BASE canopies are also listed.
NickDG 23 #29 December 26, 2010 >>One thing totally neglected is the base canopy doesnt have a TSO while the skydiving canopy does.I think you meant to say BASE rig, not BASE canopy. You can stick a bed sheet in your skydiving main container here in the USA and be perfectly legal. On the other hand there is a German BASE rig that does have a TSO. And if you put a chest mounted reserve on it, it is legal to skydive with here. For those other countries that don't approve of BASE canopies for skydiving, how dumb is that? Big docile BASE canopies are a lot safer to skydive with than the twitchy "spin up and chop" skydiving canopies of today. NickD

BlindBrick 0 #31 December 27, 2010 QuoteWingsuit BASE is just the ultimate freedom!Quote Al lthat freedom goes away when you suddenly realize that you need to fly your canopy /right this fucking second/ and your arms are currently gift-wrapped in yards of nylon. -Blind"If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it."
