riggerrob 643 #4 December 29, 2010 Long before Cypres was invented, the military and NASA used a wide variety of "reefing rope cutters" etc. to stage openings and deploy huge round parachutes. Try asking companies that sell cargo chutes to the military. If they offer you "time expired" explosive cutters, RUN AWAY SCREAMING! Life is too short too mess with time-expired explosives. IOW If you play with time-expired explosives your life expectancy is short.

They don’t explode but one that large will take a finger off. SparkyMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
RIGGER160 0 #6 December 29, 2010 Even those cutters can usualy only handle 1/2 - 1 inch tubular. We use them for the G-11 cargos and they are fun to play with.
councilman24 37 #7 December 30, 2010 There out to be some suplus ones from NASA. Saw one about 4" wide on the Shuttle SRB chutes. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
mjosparky 4 #8 January 1, 2011 These are the largest ring cutters I have seen. The large one is 1.25 inches and the smaller one is 0.75 inches. The other ones are called “cutter cartridge actuated” referred to as finger cutters... The red one is 0.8 sec and has a blunt cutter. The silver one is 0.5 sec and has a knife blade cutter. Works better cutting Kevlar or spectra.
