Nightingale 0 #3 January 15, 2004 No. Absolutely not. Thanks to Bush and his war in Iraq, I have one friend who is now considered permanently disabled from a shattered ankle from enemy fire, and one friend lying in a military hospital with a bullet wound in his abdomen. I'm very, very relieved they aren't dead. But... the question of whether I'm better off than I was when Bush took office is not nearly as relevant as the question of: "Are our soldiers and their families better off since Bush took office?" Vertifly 0 #7 January 15, 2004 Since Bush has taken office: The economy has gotten worse. The deficit has almost doubled. The job market has gone from the best its been in 40 years to the worst its been in 25. We have been PROVOKING a war in Iraq. We've lost a few civil liberties. He has neglected the health care and educational efforts of his predacessors. And now he is focussing on things that aren't even on this planet. What the hell is going on with this guy?!!! His father did a much better job. In my opinion he is not quite a BUSH, he's a SHRUB.

champu 1 #10 January 15, 2004 I put yes but only financially. When I graduate I'm going to work for a defense contractor. It's been my (cynical) opinion for a while that people don't vote to have their candidate win, but rather they vote so that when their candidate loses they can blame everything from the economy to the weather on the other chump. chaoskitty 0 #11 January 15, 2004 Personally, yes I am better off. The world has changed. It would have changed no matter who is in office. I shudder to think what condition our country and world politics would be in if Gore had been in the office through the events of recent years. Not a direct answer to your question, I know, but its the first thing that occurred to me when I thought about it.
wmw999 2,501 #12 January 15, 2004 QuoteI shudder to think what condition our country and world politics would be in if Gore had been in the office through the events of recent yearsz Why? Do you really think his reaction to the 9/11 events would have been that different? The main think I see is that individually we might not have been as strong, but we would have a whole lot more countries willing to stand confidently with us, rather than being scared that we'll stomp them if they're not with us. But then I'm not big enough to think that intimidation and overwhelming strength are the only ways to win. Sometimes they're needed. But remember that whole "united we stand" thing? It's not only the US it can apply to. Wendy W.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)
bkdice 0 #13 January 15, 2004 my personal life sure has gotten better - but i won't attribute that to bush. i did buy a condo 2 years ago with a low interest rate loan. just sold it for 53% more than i bought it for, so that sure puts me better off financially. it's definitely been a good time to get a loan the last 2 years with the rates dropping. also helps living in a 'hot' area with realtors for parents.
 meltdown 0 #14 January 15, 2004 I'm far better off. Of course, it doesn't have a damn thing to do with any politician. It has everything to do with the decisions I make on a daily basis. One of the best decisions I have ever made was to start taking care of my own problems instead of waiting for a benevolent big government program to come do it for me. Life's been pretty good since I decided that.
 melstarr 0 #15 January 15, 2004 QuoteThe economy has gotten worse. We can't be sure, but it is really a cop out to say well I'm just glad it was him rahter than the other guy.
