Confessions of a Skydiving Groupie/Newbie

Recommended Posts

Yes, I said groupie . . . :D I can't help it. It's a compulsion. Anyway, here's a list of some of the things I find myself doing that drive me nuts/crack me up, as the result of my venture into the world of skydiving.

1. I find myself saying or thinking "Beer!" anytime I or someone else says, "This is the first time . . ." or "I've never done this before."

2. I am still extremely amused by the use of 3-way, head down, snatch force, and other skydiving terms as innuendos anytime they are brought up.

3. I saw a stove called a Spectre today, and I immediately thought, "Ooh! That's the stove I want. It's named the same as a canopy!"

4. When I see someone do a really good swoop, I want to go up and ask for their autograph.

5. I love the fact that everyone seems to know each other, but I find myself watching skydiving videos avidly looking for any faces I recognize. And if I see one, I get really excited.

6. Skydiving is all I want to talk about, think about, etc. Except for beer and sex. I guess I have a "three-track" mind now.

Ok, that's all. Just had to get that off my chest.

:D:D:D:D:D

That's really funny. Even when I'm at work, I find myself stopping in the middle of a conversation because the word "first" is about to come out of my mouth. It always makes me laugh.

Also, everytime I go to buy something that costs more than 20 bucks, I immediately start calculating how many jump tickets I'm spending.

I do that too, sometimes I go into advanced math and try to calculate how many of whatever I'm looking at it would take to buy whatever piece of gear I'm needing/wanting.

I actually decide on how badly I need it by estimating how much longer I'd have to wait.

How come I could never do this and actually save money before I started skydiving?

:D :D ~ very funny kel* ~

: the other day at the dz, the upper winds were really strong causing no forward movement on final... after i landed, i looked over at my friend and asked -

"geez, did you have any Penetration? i had NO Penetration whatsoever!"

a visitor standing next to me had this "large-eyes/mouth-drop look" on his face :o!!!

:D :D after i thought about what i just said, i started to laugh at myself :P

Okay, I'll have to confess here. When we went to ZHills last weekend, I totally geeked out at meeting Tony of Tony Suits fame. Oh, and when we met Arlo I kept thinking, "She's part of a team that was a national champion in this sport!" Plus, she's the absolute COOLEST person you could meet. B|

I still geek out over the simplest things in this new lifestyle. :P

hehe. when I first started jumping, I would be talking to whuffo guys... I would say, Oh my gosh! I was in on this three way today..and...oh, and later I was in on this four way...it was so hot.. It becomes so normal to say, but their jaws are dropping. hehe
Once I started freeflying, that was even better. ooooh, I was in on a 3 way head down!! yeeeehaw!

A while back they had skysurfing in the extreme games. My sons friends knew that he went to the dz with me. To my son, the guys on ESPN were just dad's friends, no big deal.

Arlo is a sweetie. (I have to say that or she'd kick my butt. )

I used to do this constantly, but I was would also calculate how many hours I would have to work in the chem lab to make up for it and still be able to jump. This was very discouraging towards purchases. I ate a lot of ramen noodles that year.

Wait until you can identify people by thier jumpsuits/containers/canopies in pictures. I look through parachutist and sometimes I see somone that I recognize......from the back.

Another thing that cracks me up is when I go out on a friday night and go home early so that I can make to the DZ early on Saturday morning, my friends think that I am wierd.

I drive people crazy if they ever ask about skydiving. I will talk about it until they are fed up:o. I just love it sooo much:S.

I hear ya on that. When I go out w/ non- skydiving friends, they get fed up when I go home early...either that or I go hang out in my dz town just so I can get there earlier. Now I decided it would be easier just to move there w/skydivers. I think it will be best for everyone.

I'm thinking you know the difference between those two body parts.

I stopped by twice about two weeks apart. Last one was around Oct 16-19 I think. Came by just for one day two weeks earlier on a sunday afternoon.

Be careful about giving your keys to someone you hardly know ;)

Don't watch Animal planet especially ones featuring primate mating habits when you'll find your mind wandering to a really cool FF exit.

Don't talk to truckers about the size of your rig.

Avoid daydreaming about relative work in rush hour traffic and how you need to swing left to make your next point.

Don't consider the offramp as an opportunity for a hook turn to swoop into the traffic light at the end.

Be careful when inviting someone to your place for a home cooked meal (pick me, pick me !!) when Peas are on the menu as the temptation to put your foot in the boiling pot will be great.
