Confessions of a Skydiving Groupie/Newbie

Ok, mine's even funnier than that! One time, Sangiro made a post directed at me (not a red-hot fork kind of post, a helpful one), and I felt like I had just met Tom Cruise! :D

RALMFAO! I can completely relate but from the other side of the fence.
I was working on the weekends packing tandems for Skydive Santa Barbara. At this point I had only done 1 tandem 2 years prior but as a military cargo Rigger I pack rounds & wanted to learn about squares so the DZ Rigger agreed to teach me. He often mentioned the name "Bill Booth" throughout my training.
Well, about 4 months later, when I was still so young & innocent:ph34r: on dropzone.com I was checking out "who's online" & I saw it!! I saw his name!! Bill Booth was online at dropzone.com!! I wanted to poop my pants!! I was certain the Rigger Gods had parted the clouds & were smiling down on me.:) At that moment I too had the feeling of just meeting Tom Cruise.
I was still so exstatic about seeing :)"his":) name on dz.com I had to tell Jack (the dz Rigger) who found my excitement so amuzing he just laughed.

Allow me to add that of course I couldn't even muster up enough courage to like say "hi" to him or anything. Duh!?:S
I mean it would've been as akward as coming face to face with Tom Cruise. HUGE smile, shakey hands & wouldn't be able to, for the life of me, think of anything intelligent to say ... then I'd walk away saying to my self he must think I'm a huge dork.:D
So I didn't risk it ... just stared at :)"his":) name on my computer screen mesmorized with I dorky smile on my face.

Man, before now Jack was the only who'd heard that story.:$

I made a post titled "Riser Slap" and Bill Booth replied, and I got to tell you it almost sent me into a panic thinking I might have to talk about gear with Bill Booth:P

:D:D
That's so cool & nerve racking all rolled into one ... I couldn't even begin to imagine!:SB|

One of the first things you notice about meeting some of the big names in skydiving is how cool they are...we see them in the mags, in the videos, and they seem like rock stars to us, but they are generally the nicest, most down-to-earth folks you'll ever meet. Gives you hope that the people with the "skygod" attitudes will come around eventually...;)

How cheap are you? I've got about $20 burning a hole in my pocket! :D

And Hollywood, I had no idea that was you! I have been to Ohio, and it was cold as all get out, but I had a lot of fun. It was great meeting you, too!

After level one my JM told me he had robbed a convenience stor in order to get his first rig. Now I'm not there yet, but plans are afoot... :P But then I'm thinking, if most convenience stores are like the one's I know, I might not be able to get a complete used rig. Hmm, banks anyone? Maybe that's why the guy's in Point Break had to rob banks, to pay for skydiving.

Never go to a DZ strip show.

Hey bro let me know about the bank thing.
We need money but it would suck major ass monkeys to go to jail and not be able to jump.

How can we make more money or make skydiving cheaper?

Here's my story about my brush with skydiving greatness:

My first night in Z-hills, I saw Tony Hathaway at the Chinese buffet. He recognized my boyfriend and waved, so I all casually waved back. And then I was like, "Ohmigod. I totally just waved at Tony Hathaway like I knew him."

I was so excited to see him in person, I called one of my friends from the bathroom at the restaurant. She was like, "Tony ... who?"

And duck ... I also met Tony (as in "Suits") when I was there. I blushed and stammered and couldn't even talk to him.

Interestingly, I was just fine chatting it up with another legendary character -- Scotty Carbone.

Meeting Olav was pretty cool. I just feel like a dork because I recognized his rig hanging up on the wall before I noticed he was there.

As for skydiving on the brain...

During a phone interview for a job in LA (which I've since gotten and am taking, woohoo!) I asked the person if she knew how long it took to get to Perris
