taln1rigr 0 #27 January 15, 2004 QuoteOk, mine's even funnier than that! One time, Sangiro made a post directed at me (not a red-hot fork kind of post, a helpful one), and I felt like I had just met Tom Cruise! Kelly RALMFAO! I can completely relate but from the other side of the fence. I was working on the weekends packing tandems for Skydive Santa Barbara. At this point I had only done 1 tandem 2 years prior but as a military cargo Rigger I pack rounds & wanted to learn about squares so the DZ Rigger agreed to teach me. He often mentioned the name "Bill Booth" throughout my training. Well, about 4 months later, when I was still so young & innocent on dropzone.com I was checking out "who's online" & I saw it!! I saw his name!! Bill Booth was online at dropzone.com!! I wanted to poop my pants!! I was certain the Rigger Gods had parted the clouds & were smiling down on me. At that moment I too had the feeling of just meeting Tom Cruise. I was still so exstatic about seeing "his" name on dz.com I had to tell Jack (the dz Rigger) who found my excitement so amuzing he just laughed. dropdeded 0 #28 January 15, 2004 I made a post titled "Riser Slap" and Bill Booth replied, and I got to tell you it almost sent me into a panic thinking I might have to talk about gear with Bill Booth dropdeded------------------------------------------ The Dude Abides. -
taln1rigr 0 #29 January 15, 2004 Allow me to add that of course I couldn't even muster up enough courage to like say "hi" to him or anything. Duh!? I mean it would've been as akward as coming face to face with Tom Cruise. HUGE smile, shakey hands & wouldn't be able to, for the life of me, think of anything intelligent to say ... then I'd walk away saying to my self he must think I'm a huge dork. So I didn't risk it ... just stared at "his" name on my computer screen mesmorized with I dorky smile on my face. Man, before now Jack was the only who'd heard that story. skycutie 0 #32 January 15, 2004 I know what you're talking about. Sometimes I check "my altitude" during commercial flights MEN: you can't live with 'em, you can't shoot 'em, but you can act psychotic and keep 'em off balance. HISPA #
mfrese 0 #33 January 15, 2004 One of the first things you notice about meeting some of the big names in skydiving is how cool they are...we see them in the mags, in the videos, and they seem like rock stars to us, but they are generally the nicest, most down-to-earth folks you'll ever meet. Gives you hope that the people with the "skygod" attitudes will come around eventually...Doctor I ain't gonna die, Just write me an alibi! ---- Lemmy/Slash

Darius11 12 #35 January 15, 2004 Oh god i have become the cheapest fuck i know. Every time i go to spend money on any thing i hear a voice say"what about AFF who cares about food" My instructor just told me there going to FL in march and i should save money and come with them i think i am going to get a 2nd job for a few months just so i can jump more and finish AFF. Skydiving = Crack maybe even worst but i love itI'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain
kelel01 1 #36 January 15, 2004 QuoteOh god i have become the cheapest fuck i know. How cheap are you? I've got about $20 burning a hole in my pocket! And Hollywood, I had no idea that was you! I have been to Ohio, and it was cold as all get out, but I had a lot of fun. It was great meeting you, too! Kelly
kelel01 1 #37 January 15, 2004 Yeah, last weekend I went snowboarding, and I fell and hurt myself (or was in pain anyway). First thing I did was go to take off my altimeter, b/c that's what I always do to get comfortable after a painful landing. Weird, huh? Kelly
Darius11 12 #38 January 15, 2004 I have to say i have never been cheap in my life but now i am really cheap. Every time i spend money i think about how i should save it for skydiving. But i will take you out any time and it would be an honer. I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain

benny 0 #40 January 15, 2004 After level one my JM told me he had robbed a convenience stor in order to get his first rig. Now I'm not there yet, but plans are afoot... But then I'm thinking, if most convenience stores are like the one's I know, I might not be able to get a complete used rig. Hmm, banks anyone? Maybe that's why the guy's in Point Break had to rob banks, to pay for skydiving. Never go to a DZ strip show.
Darius11 12 #41 January 15, 2004 Hey bro let me know about the bank thing. We need money but it would suck major ass monkeys to go to jail and not be able to jump. How can we make more money or make skydiving cheaper?I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not." - Kurt Cobain

benny 0 #43 January 15, 2004 I don't think I'd see any canopies from my lock-up. Hey, I wonder if there are any "money planes" we could rob and them jump out of for a quick getaway? Never go to a DZ strip show.
canopycandy 0 #44 January 15, 2004 Here's my story about my brush with skydiving greatness: My first night in Z-hills, I saw Tony Hathaway at the Chinese buffet. He recognized my boyfriend and waved, so I all casually waved back. And then I was like, "Ohmigod. I totally just waved at Tony Hathaway like I knew him." I was so excited to see him in person, I called one of my friends from the bathroom at the restaurant. She was like, "Tony ... who?" And duck ... I also met Tony (as in "Suits") when I was there. I blushed and stammered and couldn't even talk to him. Interestingly, I was just fine chatting it up with another legendary character -- Scotty Carbone. champu 1 #45 January 15, 2004 Meeting Olav was pretty cool. I just feel like a dork because I recognized his rig hanging up on the wall before I noticed he was there. As for skydiving on the brain... During a phone interview for a job in LA (which I've since gotten and am taking, woohoo!) I asked the person if she knew how long it took to get to Perris
happythoughts 0 #46 January 15, 2004 Next time, I see Tony H. I'll have to mention that to him. You have to know him to get a chuckle about that. He is probably the most humble guy I know.
