Where did I say in that paragraph that anyone had a "Problem" with "Gay" I mentioned sexuality and that covers more than just Hetero and Non-Hetero.

You're missing the point. This is not a new story. The event in particular happened about two monthes ago, and has had very good coverage, everyone from Salon to Dan Savage. The issue is NOT liberal extremists being overly PC, quite the contrary the issue is homophobic southern conservatives who seem to think having a gay mom is something this kid should be punished for talking about.

The ACLU is demanding the case be removed from Marcus' file and that the school apologize to the boy and his mother, Sharon Huff.

The school superintendant refused to apologise.

This is a totally absurd case, but the absurdity lies on the right, not the left.

I was schooled at home;) till grade 5, part of which was 1 on 1 tutoring from a retired prof, which I recommend highly, but when I entered public school I had a really good time from grade 7-12, (too nerdy for elementary school i guess), and I think there is a lot to gain from public school. Then again, if your child can't learn there you have to explore other options. I'm glad I wasn't home schooled any longer though, a lot of my best friends are those I met in junior high and have known since. Also it is harder to be involved in extra-curriculars in home school. Is anyone familiar with the Waldorf school system?

Yeah, I realize it more than PC.
Its just that PC is anathema to me and once I'm on that tangent.... Sorry:$.

Its sad and ridiculous the bizarre level this crap has reached, and these rabidly PC
liberal education professionals eat and breathe this crap. These are the same folks trying to teaching our kids their skewed morals about life, sexuality and society while failing to teach them reading writing, arithmetic, geography, science, history and just about everything else

There's a contradiction in your paragraph above. It's not liberals that have a problem with "gay".

Where did I say in that paragraph that anyone had a "Problem" with "Gay"
I mentioned sexuality and that covers more than just Hetero and Non-Hetero.

The entire thread is about a kid getting in trouble for saying "gay". And "liberals" had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Is that because the "liberals" are the party of peace, tolerance, and unity? Tell us, Professor, who did have something to do with it?

I think I covered that already. The problem was a homophobic southern conservative school superintendent who tought his students that having a gay mother is a punishable offense.

He just did it in the name of "policital correctness" so he could get away with it, or so he thought.

The "problem" as you put it, was the ideas that the superintendent was enforcing (right), not the fact that he framed it in PC (left).

LESS THAN ZERO TOLERANCE: Sharon Huff got a call that her son, Marcus, 7, had said a "bad word" at his Lafayette, La., school. When he got home, a note from his teacher at Ernest Gallet Elementary informed her Marcus had used the word "gay" to describe his mother, who is a lesbian. Marcus was sentenced to in-school suspension and forced to write "I will never use the word 'gay' in school again" for an hour. He was also made to write a "behavior contract" about what he did wrong. "I sed bad wurds," he wrote, and in the future he should "cep my mouf shut." After a public outroar, school Superintendent James Easton declared "An apology is not due" to Marcus or his mother. (Washington Post) ...No apology for punishing him for telling the truth, and no apology for not teaching him how to write.

Heroic Story
I asked permission beforehand, I copied the entire newsletter and also stated that I obtained his permission.

Did you do that?

[please note the last sentence in the quoted paragraph from True]

I can tell you from FIRST hand experience that even when an author or publisher gives permission to someone for posting or republication in their print media, there will always be someone later that attributes the original article to the person that did the reprint.
see Parachutist Feb 2003 pg. 13. MY stories that Jim correctly attributed, but still were reported incorrectly down the chain.

The only thing kids learn in public school is how to be stupid consumers. That and political correctness.

So, just because the name of the web site is www.thisistrue.com, um, how well has this story been documented?

For instance, has anyone independently gone over to the Washington Post web site and looked it up? Certainly not finding it wouldn't be a total knockout punch, but finding it would at least let us know that it really happened and wasn't just a bit of entertainment this site dreamt up.

I always thought the word 'gay' described someone as happy and joyful with a pleasant demeanour.
My friends are very happy to be described ion this way.

There's always one though.[:/]

Yep, that is the original meaning.

Does this mean we get to call HappyThoughts "GayIdeas"? B|
