Amazon 7 #26 January 8, 2004 Oh Jan dear.... Survival in the Pacific NorthWET where the trees grow TALL consists of a WOOD stove in the house.. And not one of thoie silly little pellet things either. That way when the ice storm hits you can burn the big chnks of trees that fell over during the last windstorm or ice storm. I lost power yesterday for a couple hours.. and did not even break out the gas generator for power. I don't start worrying about the freezers with the fish and game in it for 24 hours.. especially since its cold out anyway. I just went into work early... I drove the 23 miles to Redmond with no problem and did not even have to chain up the big red 4x4. The most challenging part was getting out of my driveway thru 1 ft of show.. covered with an inch of ice from the freezing rain. The road down the hill was kinda fun but no problemo and there were trees down across the road everywhere on the way. I should have takin my big chain saw so I could have picked up another cord of wood on the way to work that would have been some more of that free heat I was talking about..... GOD I love living out here in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains.. ITs SOOOOO Beautiful so much of the year. Silver linings dear.. silver linings.. I guess its the optimist in me that comes out sometimes. OH and all the silver coatings are melted off now today in the yard but god it was so pretty yesterday. hooked 0 #27 January 8, 2004 Oh, we have a wood stove (a real one) but it's in the basement, so that is where we spent the day and evening!!!! It was pretty with the coating of ice on top of all the trees and snow! Jan -------------------------------------- Sometimes we're just being Humans.....But we're always Human Beings. hooked 0 #29 January 8, 2004 The first day or two is nice, after that it gets "old", especially if you don't like driving in the snow and icy roads! Losing your power isn't too bad, IF it doesn't stay off too long! You are lucky to live in a nice sunny, warm state! FL is FLAT. kinda like a big sandbar built on a coral reef from when sea level was just a few feet higher.. Edited to add.. oh and dont forget tornados....very high incidence....but I DID love the HUGE thunderboomers all summer.. those I miss out here.. we hardly ever get a decent thunderboomer

Heehee, I agree. I like your state much better, it's so pretty. My aunt up there just sent me a picture of her frozen yard. happythoughts 0 #33 January 8, 2004 The nice thing about hurricanes is that we get 3 days notice and we go hang out somewhere else, or stay home and throw an excellent party. Florida is flat, but Washington is heading there. How's Mt. St. Helens doing these days?
Amazon 7 #34 January 8, 2004 QuoteFlorida is flat, but Washington is heading there. How's Mt. St. Helens doing these days? Well the last time I took a walk on the dome in 1986 it was still growing... neener neener... It will be MANY millions of years till WA is as flat as FL.. I don't think I am sticking around to see that though.

That's because you are too young to remember when Fl was mountainous. I jump in Zephyrhills you know. My dad is from Oregon. I did the Rogue River boat ride. They show you where the river flash-flooded and river crested 95 feet over normal. There is a concrete truck that was rolled over 1/2 mile down river by the force of the water. steve1 5 #36 January 8, 2004 Quote I can't believe how it's like 15 degrees colder in Montana... how can people LIVE in that!?!?! In NorthEast Montana (where I live) it's been around 28 below this past week. With the chill factor it gets down to as much as 80 below. The snow is at least a foot deep. So, in other words...it's been a while since I jumped last. I survive by staying in the house most of the time, doing taxidermy work next to a warm stove, and dreaming about jumping. If you are thinking of moving to Montana don't pick the Northeastern part. It's a good place to freeze your gonads off. That's why I have such a high squeaky voice.....Steve1

How can we not be loving that??? Because each branch of the trees are covered in a 1/2" layer of ice that makes for a lot of falling trees and branchesand then power failures. That's a beautiful picture. Don't get us wrong, this is a beautiful state! It's just been a rough week for weather that wasn't normal. Weren't you the one complaining you were cold one day??? The snow here is always beautiful but it doesn't last long, the rains come the next day, it turns to slush, they dump TONS of sand on the roads, and it makes the snow all dirty and brown alongside the road. Around here the snow usually only lasts the day that is snows, maybe the day after......except for this year!
